Pale yellowy straw like look to this one with a small white head. Quiet scents, very subdued. I think I smell orange in there amongst the light hops. The taste is true to the smell: a light fruity orange flavor is mixed with the subtle hops. It's got a light mouthfeel, perfect for a hot afternoon in So Cal. Very drinkable mainly for its well-balanced subtle flavors.

On-tap at the Brewhouse

Pours a slightly cloudy orange color with a white head. Fruity aromas to begin with. Grapefruit, peach, and orange open things up. A touch of pine and grass followed by some hints of toffee sweetness. The flavor is a bit on the sweet side with a fair amount of toffee and bread. Good tangerine, grapefruit, and orange citrus character and a hint of peach. Light pine and rather mild bitterness.

Hazy pale amber, it has a small lasting foamy head that slowly shrinks.

Aroma is light, leather, malty barley, cirtrus, and vague pine.

Taste is light juicy yeastiness up front and running throughout, with raisiny maltiness and light grassy-citrusy hop bitterness. This is a fairly mild, but very enjoyable IPA that holds up well to food and, though gentle, has a definite mostly yeasty-hoppy character.

Poured a golden color with a small white head and good carbonation. Nose is hops, citrus and floral, perhaps Chinook and Amarillo. Taste is a slight astringent, perfumey and lots of hop oil, resin. Citrus and floral notes, not much on the malt. Pretty average against todays competition and standards but several years ago i would have said it was pretty good IPA. Drinkablke for sure.

on tap at the brewhouse. this is a very strong beer hop wise. it's got a very resin piney hop nose. the taste is basically pure hops. bitter and dry with very little malt. this definitely makes it a palate killer, and maybe not something to get if you're going to be eating seafood, like I plan on doing! it's definitely not what i'd call a session beer by any means. only a few sips in my stomach and tongue wish that maybe I had ordered something different!

Draught at the brewpub. Gold with a small head, probably due to an overflowing pour. Super resiny, herbal, and piney nose; really smells like a shit load of dry hopping. The flavor is a blast of minty, herbal, and piny hops. Pretty dry and subdued malts. The lack of real malt assertiveness leaves the impression of chewing on pure hops. alright, but not my style for an IPA, with the less than flavorful malts.

Draft at brewery, 02/18/08. 7.3% ABV for this batch.

Medium golden, some active carbonation, some foam atop beer. Aroma? Nope. Big piney hops nail your tongue right out of the gate. No other flavor comes out of this hop juice as it has its astringent way with your palate.

Not a fan of this style.

I always hit the Brewhouse when I go to Santa Barbara. It's the kind of place (among other things) that makes me wish I lived there. Their IPA is not my favorite beer they make. I rather enjoy their stout, and their Pilsener even. One expects an IPA to exhibit a pronounced hoppiness, but this one seemed to have a bit of a harsh bite in the finish that came off somewhat overwrought. I prefer the ones where the brewer loads up the finishing hops for that big nose-hit and then just enough bitterness to cleanse the palate for a dry finish. The aroma in this one is quite nice, herbal and piney-woodsy, but the hops overstay their welcome, biting a little too much. Generally speaking, a solid beer from a skilled and talented brewer (and a genial fellow).

From a growler filled the previous week.

Pale gold with a crispy white head that dissipates rapidly upon the touch of the lips.

Aroma is crisp with pine and a catty touch of Chinook-like hop additions.

Initial flavor is an underlying grainy pale malt with a light toasty tone that is quickly overwhelmed by a prominent bitter bite to the finish

Overall, a very well done, crisp dry and biting IPA

This one makes its way from Solomon420 - thanks D.

This one pours a rusty golden orange into my Impy Pint glass. Head puffs up an inch or so, pillowy soft, and slowly settles. Aromas are bittered pine with a far off hint of citrus.

Taste goes right to the bitter side of life with a bit of unsweetened, unruby red grapefruit and back to bitter - finishes dry as the sahara. A nice medium body with moderate carbonation lets this one sit nicely in the mouth.

Overall a pretty decent brew, though no superstar. Can they all be superstars anyway? Cheers to a nice drinkin IPA.

This was a good but not great IPA. Lighter mouthfeel with floral hops that are somewhat subdued (compared to some west coast IPAs). Some astringency and decent amount of carbonation. Some grassiness.

Anyway, good and very drinkable, but not my favorite.
