I stopped into this place with recommendations from other Beer Advocate's. The atmosphere was pretty nice it has that pub look to it with many signs and a nice old smell in there. The service was a bit on the rough side one of the bartenders had no idea what the hell he was doing, the younger bartender knew his stuff and beer, they served the beer in the proper glasswear. This place also has a hand pump with Fullers ESB on pump which is allways a plus. Overall this place has a chance to be really great it just needs some more quality taps and also a few more bottle selections, I didn't taste the food but it did smell pretty good. They were also doing some major renovations to the other side of the bar and plan to open that side up soon.

Right on westbound US 17 in historic old downtown Punta Gorda.

A nice, relaxing Irish style pub with a huge wooden bar that meanders through two rooms. Exposed brick and wood are the dominant themes here. A small stage sits under the stairs to the second floor in the more bar-like room. The other room is more "family style" with comfy upholstered armchairs around various tables.

Full liquor bar complements the sadly small selection of taps, all 14 of them. Two are Guinness, with Irish/British regulars Harp, Smithwicks, Youngs (Double Chocolate), Kilkenny, Tennant, Boddingtons and Strongbow cider in the mix. Others are Amstel light, Lagunitas IPA, Stella, Hoegaarden and Widmer round it out. Wine is also served in various permutations.

The decor is relaxing and comfortable as is the service on a Thursday afternoon.

Food is available but it is pricey unless you're a kid. Main meals listed on the board are $10-15 with tax included. Both kids meals are $5, desserts are $4. Food is authentic sounding, from bangers & colcannon to tandoori pasty to stuffed cabbage, Lamb shank, Guinness pie & chicken curry.

I visited the Celtic Ray in Punta Gorda during a recent trip to the area. The place is small and cozy with a real Irish feel.

Great selection of beers. Food was unexpectedly good (Irish fare). Got the fish & chips and a couple of pints of Guinness and still had plenty of money left in my pocket on my departure.

Max the bartender (owner's son) was entertaining and a pleasure to visit with. Loved his reaction to a patron who bellied up to the bar and ordered a Bud Light!

I would absolutely love to spend a St. Patty's day at this pub. I can't wait to make a return visit when we're in the area again.

Slainte!

have been going to this place for years. this bar has been through many ups and downs. diffrent managers/owners. the most recent has done away with the small friendly irish pub atmosphere. the quality has gone down. the employees he has hired are hired because of thier appearance instead of the knowledge. quit going there when i ordered the fish and chips. now i can put away some food, but the dinner was always too much so i would order the luch size. well the last time i ordered it, the fish portiion was the size of about three mcdonalds chicken mcnuggets and the price had gone up several dollars. i quit going here. even one of the bar tenders says he has quit drinking here and goes to a diffrent local establishment.

Small and a bit rough are the words that come to mind immediately. There weren't a lot of different beers available and the bartender though nice enough didn't know anything about the beers. I did learn that they are under new ownership, about three months now she said.

It is an old house with a low ceiling in part of it and it looks like they are going to do some renovations. A lot of the knick knacks are cool and antique looking.

They were not serving food the night I was in.

Call before you go. Ask what imports they are pouring and if they are serving food.

This place is an absolute oasis in a sea of mediocre beer offerings. I felt right at home after walking in, the atmosphere has a relaxed Irish pub feel. This would have been good enough, given the area, but the beer menu was outstanding. St. Bernardus, Westmalle, Duvel in bottles plus Fuller's ESB from a beer engine were some of the offerings. Only tried the chips, which were good, but I can't vouch for the other food. Seemed like a lot of locals were enjoying themselves there. I would highly recommend this spot if you are in Punta Gorda.

Several of the ratings would probably be higher if I had been there pre-hurricane (I will re-review again in the future). It was wonderful to see these folks up and running, spreading cheer so soon after the city was utterly devestated by the hurricane. Much of the establishment was ruined, and the remaining section is the bar and a smaller dining area. The lady tending bar told me that they only had fish 'n chips and shepherd's pie (due to the storm, the menu is usually much bigger). She promised that the fish 'n chips was the "best in the country", and it was the best I've had. Dee-licious! I had a (hand pulled) Fuller's ESB, which was nice (other than the plastic glass it was served in, I hate drinking beer from plastic!). A very friendly atmosphere with "no TV, no domestic beer, and you order your beer and food at the bar". I will definitely stop in for a pint whenever I'm up that way, and I suggest you do the same. Some good selections on tap and in the bottle, and the atmosphere is genuine.
