On tap at the brewpub on 10/12/08.

Pours a dark caramel amber with a thin creamy head of off-white foam. Retains around the edges, leaving a smattering of lace that slides down the sides of the glass. The aroma is bready caramel malts with a splash of citrus and light Noble hop bitterness and spice.

The taste is toasted caramel malt that intermingles with citrus character and a mild, tingling, hop bitterness that offers some balance. Finishes with a light, bitter, smack. The mouthfeel is light-medium bodied with a creamy and easy feel but seems a bit thin for the style.

An OK O-Fest from Willimantic, nothing really blew me away here but this was still clean, crisp, and easy drinking. Servicable stuff for the Fall season.

Enjoyed this Oktoberfest on tap last week and was impressed with the effort in this beer. Nice copper brown appearance with a slight albeit minimal head retention. Very clear and clean look and the barest of carbonation. The aroma was brimming with Tettnang and Saaz hops...somewhat suprising for a Marzen but pleasant nonetheless. The taste was creamy as it warmed up and a whisper of caramel was noted. Smooth with mild bitterness. Mouthfeel was slightly buttery but very smooth and clean. A very drinkable Oktoberfest from the best brewpub in the state. A nice effort.

HUGE thanks to Allie ( thebestever ) for shipping me this growler in the Secret Halloween BIF. I missed the opportunity to crack it last night, but as I sit here at 7:30 in the morning, I know I'll have a great Saturday now.

A- Deep copper tone, almost burgundy in hue. Clean-cut wedding lace top, not as much head as I would expect from a growler pour. Biofilm and thin collar left over after a quick dissipation. TONS of bubbles stream from the bottom of my pint glass.

S- Interesting! Whew. Butter notes come forward initially. These are followed by some classic malts that accentuate the sweet character. Faint metallic oxidation aroma on the back end. Almost undetectable apple cosmetic in the last whiffs.

T- The butter is all over the tongue on the opening moments. It is amazing, in terms of that flavor. Was not expecting this taste to ever be in my Oktoberfest.

The malts are mostly caramel and those are pretty hard to pick out. They seem to be dominated by the opening and closing notes. Savory and bittersweets.

Some tart fruit notes exist in the middle with the most apparent fructose of apple origin, of course. Tangy bit of grapes on the finish. Very mildly hopped up that fades on the finish leaving a faux clean palate.

M- Full bodied, great amount of carbonation, creamier than I was expecting, but not entirely smooth. This is probably one of the best feeling Marzens I've come across to date. Lovely feeling.

D- Its good, but it leaves me wanting... more. I don't know. Maybe a more pronounced taste profile after the butter. Something more aggressive. The same can be said of the nose. It is enjoyable, and I can definitely drink the entire growler of this ( YES! ), but I wouldn't search out this growler again. If I happened across it, cool beans.

Creamy 1/2" off white head that falls to the glass sides after a moment and leads to some ringed lacing with decent strength. A maroon, deep brown in color; flashes of glowing burgundy when the light catches it right.

A moderate molasses and caramel malt sweetness. Hints of plum, raisin, and a light port-like nose. Seemingly warm and inviting aroma with whaffs of alcohol.

Nice, balanced sweetness; mostly molasses and toffee at first that give way to some hints of ripe fruit: raisin, dark cherry, and even fig. The sweetness isn't overpowering and finishes a touch dry without losing any of the initial flavor. An aftertaste of toasted oats and ripe fruit.

Medium bodied; well balanced, smooth and almost creamy on the palate.

A good version of the style in terms of flavor and mouthfeel. I was pleasantly surprised that the sweetness of this Marzen did not overpower the beer's true flavors.

A dark slightly hazey amber colored beer with a small beige head. The aroma is an allureing malty sweet with a hint of fruity esters in the background. The malty sweetness goes over to a roasted bitterness quickly and ends with a drying hop finish. a little prickely but easy on the mouth, not too complex.
