On tap at the brewpub. I missed it at dinner and circled back later for a glass. I was expecting a whiskey barrel, so imagine my surprise when it was an oaken sour!
A: The ale is a ruddy copper color, fuller in hue but still translucent. The ale arrived with less than a finger of head.
S: The nose is acetic, vinegary with green apples and sour cherries. Wooden vanilla notes are also present. Tartness abounds.
T: The ale takes on several distinct phases. First, wooden vanilla struts around. That sweetness is followed by acetic vinegar with green apples and sour cherries. Those flavors last the longest, with little buggers adding tartness. Late in each sip, grains join with the green apples. Pucker factor is moderate but the fruit flavors and tartness are a hit.
M: The mouthfeel is tart, quite so at some points. Sour cherries and green apples provide a nice sweetness that turns acetic at times.
D: At 7%, it didn't seen very high while I was drinking it. The strength did hit a little later, so beware. A nice nightcap.

This is a review for the Willi Wonder #5. Poured a deep brown color with little head, but appropriate carbonation. The aroma is dark fruit, figs, leather and some tobacco. The taste is pretty darn sour. The mouthfeel falls a little flat, but overall a great offering from Willibrew!

Tap sampled on 09/26/08 at Night of the Funk. Pours a dirty brown with no head. Aroma of whiskey. Flavor of whiskey. I didn't know there was supposed to be whiskey in here. Where's the beer?
