Notes/Commercial Description:
Labatt Blue is the best-selling Canadian beer in the world. Introduced in 1951 as Labatt Pilsener, it was named for the colour of its label by fans of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers football team. Blue was the first brand in Canada with a twist-off cap and won the silver medal in the International Lager category at the 1998 Brewing Industry International Awards. Labatt Blue, brewed using specially selected aromatic hops, is a well-balanced, fully matured, full-flavoured beer with a fruity character and a slightly sweet aftertaste.

Had on draft.

Arrived a clear straw yellow with a one finger fizzy white head that was quick to fade. No lacing.

Smell way grape soda and cereal grain.

The flavor was very grapy which I though was odd. As the beer warmed the grape faded and cereal grain became more evident along with some corn. There was the tiniest amount of bitterness in the finish.

Overall this beer is not very good. The whole grape thing was just odd and there are better alternatives out there for AAL's.

A - pours with a small head of white foam on top of a clear, golden body. The had disappears rapidly and leaves only traces of lace.

S - grainy malt and a hint of corn.

T - grainy sweetness up front, a hint of spicy hops in the middle and a dry, lightly bitter finish.

M - light body, moderately high carbonation, and a very dry finish.

D - light and neutral, it us hard to say anything about this beer, good or bad. A generic adjunct lager.

The big blue can; felt like a lager but didn't want a sixer. Hey, sometimes you feel like mac and cheese from a box, right?

Appearance isn't bad; clear, sudsy and highly effervescent with a head that lingers for a little longer than expected. Pale, pale yellow on the color.

Smell wise, it's got that skunky adjunct aroma all over it. Thought I detected some hops but it may have been the leftover Saaz pellets in the fridge that somehow escaped the baggie... Nope, just took another whiff and there is nothing close to hops. Not even grass or corn sugars to save it.

Taste is sharp and flat at the same time. Nothing close to a real lager. Holy cow, I actually would rather have a Budweiser or a Schlitz than this.

Aside from the sharp finish, the mouthfeel isn't bad. If you want a beer you can pound all night and not get beer fatigue, this would be it. If it's under $5 for a pitcher or something at the pizza joint, you'd probably be okay after a few glasses and no longer care.

Beer soda. It's like you had half a can of flat beer and a can of soda water and decided to resuscitate the beer.

Overall I"m sorry I chose this over the Molson XXX I was about to pick up. Hey, for $2 I can't be too mad. Good thing I've got some homebrew in the fridge to get this taste out of my mouth!
