Notes/Commercial Description:
Labatt Blue Light was introduced in 1983 as a lower-alcohol, lower-calorie version of Canada’s most popular brand. Blue Light uses specially selected North American aromatic hops and the same strain of lager yeast as the one used to produce Labatt Blue. The result is a crisp, clean and delicately balanced beer, with a slight sweetness and citrus-like hop character.

This is often a session beer around these parts, and while it is less than steller all around it is completely drinkable in that it tastes like nothing. Unfortunately it doesnt give much of a buzz either.

Very clear lager. It claims to be a pils which is infuriating. Very smooth and crisp but scores low on taste simply because there is nothing for the palate here...a little malted barley is all I could pick up.

Not a great beer.

Labatt Blue Light is exactly that -- light. Much like other macrobrew light beers, there isn't much of anything to speak of. Very little flavor (some grains, corn maybe) which is overpowered by carbonated crispiness. The beer has a faint grain/wheat smell, it's incredibly thin bodied, and is extremely clear in color with a soft yellow hue. No head retention - but most of the time you're not drinking this for it's appearance, taste, or smell. You're drinking this because it's cheap and you want beer.

Marginally better than a Bud Light, but still, this is probably closer to water than it is to beer. Not much happening at all.

Presentation: 11.5oz brown twist-off top bottle. No freshness date.

Appearance: Extremely pale, straw yellow in colour with a foamy pure white head. Starts of pillowy then settles to a creamy lace with stick on the glass.

Smell: Extremely faint grain and floral aroma. Nothing going on here.

Taste: No malt body, sweetness of character. There's some dry grain flavour/tannin/feel on the palate, but that's it. Fizzy, light soda water, in feel and partially in taste. Beer goes twangy (slight citrus, lime bite) for a brief, split second, then back to the grain. Very crisp and dry.

Notes: There's absolutely nothing to this beer. It still has 111 calories which nearly the same as a Guinness Draught at 115, by the same volume.

Why? Why make it? Why drink it? Why does "light" have to mean lack of character?

Just wrong ... no better or worse than any other mainstream "light" or "lite" or "lacking" beer. I have to say it again ... Why?

Who drinks this stuff anyway? I'd like to meet them and take them out for some real beer. That, or jab them repeatedly in the kidneys until they switch brands -- the later might prove cheaper and more fun.

My rant is complete ...

Labatt Blue is a Buffalo favorite. If you were to walk into any bar in Buffalo your sure to find Labatt Blue or Blue Light on tap or in bottles. Labatt Blue Light pours a pale yellow color with a big foamy white head. It has good carbonation and clarity. The aroma and flavor is similar to regular Labatt Blue but lighter. The aroma has rice cereal malts and grassy straw like hops in the nose. The flavor has light sweet cereal malts up front that turn dry with a crisp citrusy bitter finish. "Blue Light" is light bodied, thin and a highly drinkable Canadian pilsner. It's a great beer for watching hockey [GO SABRES] and calories. It also pairs well with a traditional Buffalo style fish fry.

11.5 oz brown long neck twist, no freshness date. Head retention lacks but it is clear and very pale.

Odd musty, almost cheesy aroma. The smell is too clean and in an odd way seems incredibly stripped … oh yeah it’s a light beer.

Bland upfront and through the finish, crispness is lost and there is an underlying slickness in the mouth. Vague grain and bitterness though the bitterness could be from the hops or faintly astringent malt or both. I gather it is both. Nice to see the Canadians brew a real crappy light beer. NOT!

Poured from can into glass.

Appearance: Almost clear. Slight hint of yellow. Too much light white head that lasted seconds with heavy lacing on the glass.

Smell: Almost no smell. Maybe some sugars and alcohol.

Mouthfeel/Taste: Very light bodied and drank like water. Hints of some malts and other grains...maybe rice. Alcohol taste was the strongest flavor and that was light.

Overall: To be honest, do not care for this beer. However I could enjoy it on a very hot day with no other drink available.

what can i say? you gotta drink some shitty ones to really appreciate the great beers. found this in my fridge and what the hell? figured its worth atleast a review.

11.5oz brown twist off bottle at fridge temp poured into a pilsner glass. doesnt appear to have any sort of bottling date. there kind of making a joke of themselves by calling this a "canadian pilsener".

pours out the most super clear straw yellow, slight golden hue. super fizzy white head that went to nothing within minutes. looks like your average macro lager.

hardly anything to really pick out. metallic corny grains, a bit of lagery mineral water.

mineraly water, nasty corny grains, sweet, just slightly tart. you can tell its a lager.

lots of sparkly fizzy carbonation, leaves a nasty adjuncty taste in your mouth after each sip. super watered down, light mouthfeel.

overall, my score pretty much says it all "not impressed". im sure ill be drinking this just to "fit in" and "look cool", but i will never ever buy this. i would however support labatt over AB anyday, but thats not saying much.

Okay this is simple, imagine Labatt's Blue which is relatively lighter american style lager, now imagine that same beer watered down. I don't know how they can get away making artificial beer, this just isn't beer. It smells of a mild malt sweetness very faint, no sign of hops here just chemical ridden stench. This is one poorly made beer that just over did it on the water and left out beer. Appears yellow and very fizzy (artificial carbonation), with a very thin head even when I poured it straight into the glass with no tilt. The bubbles are still rising from the bottom of the glass much like seltzer water, which also explains the mouthfeel of this beer. In the taste it is a very nasty watered down flavor that isn't sweet and isn't bitter it's just straight gross and unappetizing. There is no finish to speak of here, just blandness absolutely no flavor. You may have to take in a keg IV of this on to get a buzz, it is that watery. I don't ever picture myself drinking this beer ever again, no matter what.

(Served in an American pint glass)

A- This beer has a golden yellow crystal clear body with a lot of tiny bubbles. There is a thin wisp of a head that swirls around and last for a bit.

S- This beer has a very soft aroma of dry grain with no smell of hops or sulfur.

T- This beer has a very soft raw grain note with a slight salty note to it. There is a slight tartness to the finish that comes through when it warms a bit.

M- This beer has a very light mouthfeel and a light fizzy finish.

D- This beer has a very soft flavor but it doesn’t have a big fizz that dominates the flavor. Not that exciting but not flavorful.

I remember the incident well. It was quite a while back and my notes just resurfaced. The memory never fades, however.

Lighter appearance even than most BMC lights. At least there's that foam.
Of all the light beers I've had, I don't recall giving one an F because they were incredibly weak, bland and flavorless but there was no gross taste or funk. This one has that. Funk in the smell, funk in the taste. It's what makes a light a D-, then you add a gross element of nasty. The mouthfeel's about the same as any light, but it's slicker (slimier?). There's an astringent tinge and the nasty funk is actually more than the aroma or flavor of the beer itself. At least the grains do exist and there's a very light citrus bite. Otherwise, I think this is officially the worst beer I've ever had.

Mmmm...expensive can in my hotel fridge, because I'm too lazy to go out for a beer, right at this moment...

This beer pours a crystal clear very pale straw colour, with one finger of thin soap-scum-like white head, which actually clings to the sides of the glass, rendering some lace as it quickly melts away. It smells of acrid corn mash, and some well-thought-out skunk. The taste is very light (I know, it should go without saying) white grain, and a subtle skunkiness. The carbonation is quite low, the body thin, yet somewhat cloying, smooth, I guess, and it finishes like an echo of a derivative of a stalk of barley or corn kernel.

As usual, the beer-as-literal-water trope works here, and at least the off-flavours are kept to a minimum. My lack of sleep is kind of giddy about the what this can of swill cost - but hey, the small bottle of water is about the same price, so, what the hell.

Lots of visible carbonation in this pale yellow beer. The steady stream of bubbles isn't enough to sustain the poorly retained head. Very mild grainy aroma. It barely even has an aroma. Tastes like lightly sweetened seltzer. Feels thin and watery with an odd slickness. Prickly carbonation. Guests went to town on the PBR at yesterdays barbecue, this got left behind. It's cold and wet, and it's drinkable, but I'd rather have beer that tastes like beer.
