Poured into a snifter on 8/13/09
A - Dark, plum-like in color. Poured a two finger head that dissipates to 1/2 inch of foam. Ok lacing.
S - Dark fruits & floral hops.
T - Tendency to follow the nose. Raisins with hop bite up front. Hints of other dark fruits - grapes & plum. Spicy character consisting of cinnamon & clove. Sweet malts & yeast.
M - Rather heavy in body with moderate carbonation. Bitterness lingers, though this is more apparent when cold. Alcohol has a potent warming effect.
D - One of my first forays into Belgian ales; it certainly challenged my palate. Complex & highly enjoyable. I would like to visit this one again.
