It pours a clear, dark ruby red-brown. Small head but a thin layer of bubbles continues to populate the surface as they percolate from the bottom, with a solid ring around the edge and good lacing.
A slight aroma of sweet alcohol emanates from the snifter, with earthy, floral notes.
The strong alcohol content right up front is tempered with malted grain and soft, warm hop bitterness. The well developed depth of flavor is meaty and reminiscent of dark bread. Excellent lingering mouth presence tingles the senses with perfectly smooth carbonation and a hint of maple syrup in the memory of the tongue.
This is a brew to enjoy slowly, like an old Scotch. One of the signature Belgian beers.
