Drank one from my cellar. 33cl bottle

I must say it didn't quite taste as usual. Strange harsh tast, very alcoholic. I was expecting something different, smooth and sweeter. Normally one of my favourites to end the day in my chair.
Was it because it was still a young one, perhaps.

A: mahogany red body, finger khaki head,
patchy lacing

S: big spices, ripe fruit, solid malt

T: alcohol warmth/mild spicy finish

M: med/heavy body, smooth mouth

O: This is incredible. Highly recommend
it and will seek it out again. The ABV
is well hidden and really sneaks up on you.

330ml bottle served in a Trappistes Rochefort goblet...

A - nice dark caramel color. small head. highly effervescent

S- sweet toasted caramel aroma, but overall subtle in the smell department

T- very sweet, yet somehow works. I'm usually turned off by beers this sweet, but this one keeps my attention (opium laced?). has a bit of a wine taste to it, but in a good way. caramel, with pepper spice and dry finish. With ABV at 10.5, you would expect a real whollop in the taste, but it is masked well by the sweetness. Make no mistake, however... you do start to feel the warming glow of the alcohol

MF- pleasant mouth-feel with crips carbination and nice dry finish

O- This is a nice beer to enjoy on a cold winter evening. you might even enjoy two, but beyond that, you might forget your name. Not my favorite hailing from Belgium, but would definitely revisit this one.

an awesome creamy thick tan three finger head sits atop a body of beer that changes color with every direction i look at it. i see shades of brown, purple, mahogany and amber. retention and lacing is outstanding.nose is kinda faint with some malt, candied fruit and earth tones mixed together. taste is really sweet. i can pick out notes of grapes, prunes, spice, malts but mostly alochol. mouthfeel is thick and syrupy. great carbonation and a warming finish. this is a big time beer in a little bottle.

A: Pours a hazy dark amber with a thick, pillowy beige head that lasts forever, lacing deep into the glass.

S: Aromas of cider apples, caramel, toffee, and spiced pears are present on the nose. Surprisingly, I'm not picking up any alcohol on the nose.

T: Gentle, delicate notes of toffee, caramel, cider apples, pear drop candy, licorice, star anise, gingerbread, toasted almonds, and a woody, herbal spiciness akin to juniper berries wash across the palate. The finish is gentle and warming with cider apple, pear drop, and woody spice notes underscored by mellow alcohol.

M: Relatively full-bodied and dry with prickly, cleansing carbonation. There is a slight alcohol presence, though it is very subdued and never even remotely distracting. To me, this beer is the prototypical evening sipper.

O: This was one of the first authentic Belgian ales that I really became attached to, and as such, I can't help being a little bit biased when I review it. I still think Gulden Draak is an exceptional ale, and I seem to return to it again and again. In my opinion, this is the best beer made by Brouwerij Van Steenberge.

This is one of my favorite beers so I will try not to be biased.

Poured from a bottle into a glass.

A- Dark brown and very inviting. Nice thick head that lingers for a little while.

S- Great aroma that has a very earthy smell to it. Malty and sweet.

T- An excellent taste. Sweet and Malty. Brown Sugar?

M- Warms the mouth. Good balance of carbonation and refreshingly smooth for a high abv.

O-Overall this is an excellent beer I that I enjoy alot. Reasonably priced and a top notch beer I would recommend to anybody.

I tried to not be biased in this review but its just an excellent beer that deserves high praise. A must try.
