A 750ml bottle poured into a big-ass wine glass. The appearance is a slightly cloudy amber, with a thick, white two-finger head that held on very well.
Aroma is killer: Big fruit and spice, with a little mustiness. Complex and compelling.
With a taste, Piraat keeps its promise of complexity. Musty, fruity sweetness balances a lightly toasted malt flavor. Actually finishes a little tart, which I thought was a nice surprise. And yeah, you really can taste the alcohol, although it doesn't overwhelm.
It feels pretty rich in your mouth. High carbonation levels without feeling fizzy.
I had tried this months ago, when I was just starting to figure out Belgian beer, and I remember being more overwhelmed than appreciative. This time, it blew me away. A new addition to my regulars.
