A 330ml stubby bottle. Into the old Chimay chalice. A three finger meringue like head rises above the rim and sits proudly. A cloudy orange amber with active carbonation bubbles streaming to the top. As the head slowly recedes the turbulence below keeps a nice layer on top. Good lacing as I drink
Smell is of light bananas and fruity Belgian yeast esters. A touch of orange. A good breadyness like a nearby bakery hides underneath. A hint of caramel sweetness. There is a faint floral hop scent with alcohol ducking behind it.
Taste like the nose and it favors cooler cellar temps like 50 degrees, maybe even 48. A wine like aspect show up as it warms and gives a distinct funkyness to the finish. At first it is malt and bananas. Then bread, yeastiness and wine that flows into a mild hop finish that develops and stays on the tongue. Graininess lingers on the palate as the hops finally fade into the winefunk.
Mouthfeel is super creamy as the carbonation is soft and loving. Weight is just right.
Drinkability is good for the abv. Watch out as the alcohol is not a feature of the taste and can sneak up on you fast after the first bottle.
A great beer for any time or reason. Just wonderful.
