11.2 poured into a tulip

A- Super hazy pour, brown, almost black. It has a massive head of large bubbles. This beer almost exploded on me when I opened it, I had the bottle cap half off and foam all down my arm, so watch out.

S- A slight sweetness. There is a lot of dark fruits. Some caramel and roastyness. Some spices from the yeast.

T- Its really drinkable and It goes down faster then I can catch all the flavors. There is dark fruits in this, A lot of grapes and raisins. A nice big sweetness. Not as much caramel as I was expecting but a lot of caramel and some toffee. This is a really solid and easy drinking beer.

M- Like I said, it drinks really smooth and easy, I wasn't expecting that from a beer this size. Super drinkable and nice dry aftertaste.

O- This is a really solid beer, I wish I had more then one or it was in larger bottles. Its tasty and super smooth, my favorite from this brewery thus far.

From a 330mL bottle into my Darkness snifter.

Pours a deep, clear, auburn. Produced a dense, cream colored head. Solid retention and some decent lacing.

Nice malty aroma with some belgian yeast. Toffee, a hint of chocolate and dark fruits, not much hop presence, and a whiff of alcohol.

Bread, Belgian yeast, toffee, vanilla, currants, hop bitterness, alcohol, in that order. Not super complex and could be more flavorful, but very clean and balanced.

Medium in body, with copious amount of carbonation. Very well balanced in the finish between sweetness, dryness, and alcohol. Coats the mouth well and a wisp of clean alcohol evaporates off the back of the tongue. Very drinkable for the style.

Overall this was a decent Belgian Strong Dark. Where it lacks in depth and amount of flavor, it makes up in drinkability. This is likely due to it's relatively low ABV. A flavorful and nice drinking beer, but it falls short of being a great Belgian Strong Dark Ale. It was a nice addition to a sample pack, but I can't say I'd seek it out again. Recommended to those new to or looking to get into Belgian ales. Cheers!

Served in a snifter.

Appearance: Dark brown, light bubbles thourgh the body with an off-white head rising to maybe a finger's length.

Smell: Really light yeast.

Taste: Rich yeast slightly bitter and malty. It is an off sweet with a slight maple feel to it.

Mouth: Medium and smooth, sharp texture with bubbles still popping while you lay the glass down.

Overall: With this beer no complaints it is simple and strong. It is also one of the few which can suit any drinker. Enjoy this one on me, Salud!

Bottle of 330 ml, bought as a part of 6 Belgian ales, all of them from Van Steenberge brewery. The 3 Augustijns the package contained didn't disappointed me, so my hopes are high for this one too.
Beige head, creamy, two fingers in height, slowly it dissolves to a thin line of foam. The beer's body is dark amber in colour.
Fruity aroma with caramel notes.
Taste is great, roasted malts, some caramel and some dark chocolate too. Sweet at first but with a slighty bitter aftertaste.
On the body is thick and oily, carbonation average.

750ml bottle into a Ranger Creek tulip. Listed at 7.5% ABV

Gorgeous pour delivers a clear, ruddy amber tinted with golden hues. Carbonation is aggressive and produces a creamy khaki head on top that retains exceedingly well. Aroma is decidedly Belgian, with caramel malt and browned apple flesh from the yeast. Tangy and rich with malt.

Flavor is more of the same, but a bit sharper as the carbonation dries the back of the tongue. Fruity esters and a touch of booze give way to a leafy bitterness on the finish. Malts taste a tad like stale bread crust, but have enough caramel to suffice as a tasty brew. Creamy carbonation level turns snappy and crisp toward the end of each sip. Body is decidedly thinner than the ABV suggests. Overall, a tasty Belgian ale. Simple, flavorful, and drinkable.

On tap at Sessions in Greensboro.Poured into a tulip glass a reuby red tinged chesnut brown with a fluffy long sustained off white head atop.Dark fruit and brown sugar mainly in the nose, some sweet alcohol creeps as the beer warms a little.Yeasty dark fruit flavors along with some brown sugar cake-like flavors that linger in the finish.Well it's not a bock by any means but it is quite good as a strong dark Belgian.

Copper, amber, ruby color nice fluffy off white head only lasts for a sweet minute or two. Scent of Belgium yeast, wood, alcohol, & browned / candied sugar. Tastes very good with superb caramel maltiness, subtle fruit hoppiness, spice cake like aftertaste. Overall a very nice beer.

Appearance: Pours heady into a tulip with about a 1 cm head. Dark ruby and thick.
Smell/Aroma: Belgian "yeast," tart, cranberry.
Mouthfeel and taste: Very refreshing at a strong 7.5%. Bright and carbonated, doesn't taste strong, tastes much lighter than 7.5; little to no spice but with a slight sweetness just on the swallow, dry.
Overall: Very refreshing at a strong 7.5%. Purchased in Feb 2012 from ABC Drinks Leuven. Poured from the bottle into a tulip. Of note is that on BeerAdvocate, this beer is classified as a Belgian Strong Dark Ale, but I think (after reading the brewery website and the bottle) that it's supposed to be a double/doppelbock, and not a Belgian strong dark, as the Augustijn Donker or the Bornem Dubbel of the same brewery. The goat and hops on the label are a nod to the former brewery, and may possibly be a nod to the style of German bocks brewed during winter. Sorry didn't mean to geek out too much, but I felt like part of the reviews here are reviewing this beer as a Belgian Strong Dark of which this is not (checked Ratebeer too) The bottle I drank listed ABV at 7.5%.
