330ml bottle from a gift pack purchased at the LCBO. Expiry date of June 27, 2025. Consumed Jan. 3, 2024.

L: Clear and dark ruby hue with two fingers of beige coloured froth. A few speckles of lacing on the goblet.

S: Raisin, red plum, chocolate chip. Some blueberry, caramel, and molasses. A bit nutty, with hints of red liquorice.

T: Largely follows the nose.

F: Medium to full bodied, equal parts sweet and bitter. Silky carbonation through middle. Long drying finish with alcohol warmth. Raisiny afters linger.

O: An excellent Belgian dubbel with impressive balance in flavour, aroma and feel. Like all great reps of the style, it drinks easier than the weight would suggest. Somewhat overlooked, this rewarding beer is worth seeking out.

Poured a 330ml stubby bottle into a pint glass. A thin bubbly tan head on a clear brown that immediately diminished to a ring.
Cinnamon and plum in the nose.
Sweet fruity plum flavours. A mild hop finish.
Medium body and carbonation.

330 ml stubby bottle, kindly shared by gunnar. ABV is 7%. Cloudy dark brown colour, moderate beige head. Moderate aroma of brown malts, a little caramel and mild spices. The flavour has distinct notes of brown malts, caramel and brown kandij sugar, also mild spices. Moderate hops. Warming mouthfeel, very drinkable.

A straightforward dubbel. Truly a lost art.

Pour is a very dark red, mostly opaque and highly fizzy with a lively brown head.

Aroma is grain, yeast, and raisins with some pleasant complexities of ripe fruit.

Flavor is great, somewhere between a black ale and a Belgian strong. Charred barley at the very front end of the sip, taken over almost immediately by wonderful fruit complexities that are just the right note between sweet and dry. The finish is lively and juicy, peppery yeast giving way to apples and pears.

Server at 9 Celsius. 9 month old bottle from the LCBO. Aggressive pour into a chalice yielded a 1 finger caramel coloured

head. Only lasted a few minutes but left fine lacing. Dark amber colour. A fine brew from Brouwerij Van Steenberge.

330 mL Bottle. ABV 8%.
Appearance: Reddish brown, less than half a finger of light beige head which dissipates quickly, Soft carbonation, Good clarity.
Aroma: Banana, Prune, Caramel, Bready malt, Pear, Apple, Slightly nutty, Slight brown sugar, Very nicely integrated, Complex.
Mouthfeel: Medium body, Soft carbonation, Dry finish, Well hidden alcohol (only slight warming, which I enjoy).
Flavour: Caramel, Bready malt, Raisin, Brown sugar, Slight pear, Slight apple, Well integrated, Complex.
Overall: I thought this beer fit its style well. There is probably room for improvement with appearance (head and retention), though I didn't have a very aggressive pour. It won't knock your socks off but I'd definitely enjoy this again!

Brown copper color with a thick thin head.
Aroma with notes of prune, candied sugar, a bit of cocoa and menthol.
Sweet flavor with notes of candied sugar, caramels, cloves, banana, chocolate and spices. Dry aftertaste with a mild bitterness and a sugary finish.
Medium body with somewhat mouth fulfilling carbonation, despite having small bubbles. Hard to believe this is 8% abv.
Chocolatey and sugary Dubbel that was just partially offset by an erratic spicy touch.

L- Pours ultra-dark chestnut, clear, though it's well rested and there is slight sediment left in the bottom of the bottle. 2Cm pillowy pale tan head slowly receding. [Holds very well and later, now 1/2 way through forms lacing down the sides of the glass].
S- Quite gentle, but deep, toasty and slightly rich.
T- ...follows the smell, but the flavour goes into a deep puddingy richness. Hints of dark crystallised fruits, and faint aromatic spices.
M- Nothing out of place with this one. A 'winter warmer' kind of beer to slowly sup or to accompany dessert.
O- Very nice. A good example of a darker Belgian monastic beer.
BB: 06/12/2020. 330ml bottle bought in the UK from BeersOfEurope.

Pours reddishbrown with moderate parchment coloured head. Dark fruits, toffee. Surprisingly (dissapointingly) light.
