You can tell it means business just from the pour, which is an amber copper color. The beauty of the look is that this beer isn't clear at all, it's murky and mysterious. The head is bright white and moderately thick. Tight bubbles lack great retention, but never fully disappear. Each movement of the glass brings about more carbonation, as well as a spotty lace.
It's all Belgian in the nose. A full compliment of pepper, pear and alcohol. No more words necessary.
Flavor explodes. Everything in the nose is more robust on the taste buds. The Belgian yeast gives a bready taste mixed in with spicy pepper and sweet/tart pear. Hop presence is very low, but balance is provided with the malt backbone and the intense alcohol.
Similar to the above attributes, it feels very Belgian. A balancing act of sweet and spicy takes place from beginning to end, the act ending as the heat from the alcohol develops near the finish. Full bodied for such a light colored beer, it's very complex in its flavors and its feel. Prickly carbonation to scrape the palate clean as the alcohol tries to keep hold til the last second.
A really manly beer, clearly a quad. A sipper, full of alcohol. Yet it provides complex flavors and feel. Aggressive, but never crossing the line. Another good beer from Van Steenberge.

750 ml bottle into chalice, bottled on 11/19/2013. Pours fairly crystal clear bright orange color with a 1 finger dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big pear, apple, plum, golden raisin, apricot, white grape, light banana, clove, pepper, candi sugar, bread, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast, pale malt, and earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of big pear, apple, golden raisin, plum, apricot, white grape, light banana, pepper, clove, candi sugar, bread, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness. Moderate earthy yeast spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of pear, apple, golden raisin, plum, apricot, white grape, light banana, pepper, clove, candi sugar, bread, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity and robustness of fruity/spicy yeast, earthy hops, and pale malt sweetness; with a great crisp malt/yeast balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium-high carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a very smooth, crisp, and lightly slick/prickly moutfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is an awesome pale Quadrupel style. All around great complexity and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, pale malt, and earthy hop flavors; and very smooth and crisp to sip on for the big ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.
