330ml brown bottle, sample from the importer.

Massive white head that is slow to dissipate, great looking clear amber hue. Floral nose, hint of taffy, crackers, and ripe pears. Lush smoothness, candied fruit, touch of peppery alcohol, delicate herbal and floral hop with a faint edge of citrus. The 10.5% is pretty mellow, noticeable but mellow. Basically a great Belgian with a bit more hop character. It works, would visit this one again without hesitation. (460 characters)

Pours into a small tulip glass a deep burnt orange with a large white fluffy-sticky crown that leaves globs of lace as it settles into a frothy mass.Leafy and slightly medicinal hops along with deep fruity esters and mild alcohol.Sweet alcohol and tropical fruitiness on the palate with some underlying leafiness,it never gets too sweet though,me personally would like more big brash hops but it's not bad. (406 characters)

A spectacular looking beer. Amber color, huge head with a lot of carbonation.. There is a good amount of lacing.
Aroma was funky, spicey, and piney.
A resiney pine taste, some onion, and a bit of spice. There was a very strong malt ibackground.
Medium-bodied, insanely carbonated. 10.5% ABV very well hidden.
Good, almost great, beer. (350 characters)

Poured from a green label 750 ml corked bottle into a Duvel tulip glass.

Appearance: Pours a hazy golden orange with a lot of rising bubbles. Big two finger off white head which slowly settles into a thinner creamy layer. Leaves a lot of lacing.

Smell: A yeasty and fruit Belgian aroma with hints of spice along with citrus and earthy hops. Upfront scent of Belgian yeast with spicy hints of clove, peppers, and funk. Pale malt with hints of wheat, grains, caramel, straw, and biscuit. Floral and earthy hops with hints of damp grass. Citrus hop hints of orange, lemon zest, pineapple, and melon. Big Belgian fruit hints of green apple, pear, white grape, and banana. Also some hints of bubblegum and Belgian candied sugar along with some alcohol. A pretty good aroma.

Taste: Like it smells, a fruity and yeasty Belgian taste with big notes of spice, citrus, and earthy hops. Big upfront presence of Belgian yeast with spice notes of clove, pepper, and farmhouse funk. Pale malt with notes of grains, straw, wheat, biscuit, and caramel. Moderate floral and earthy hop presence with some grassy notes. Citrus fruit notes of lemon, orange, pineapple, and melon. Dried fruit notes of pear, green apple, banana, and white grape. Notes of bubblegum and sweet Belgian candied sugar. A very good Belgian taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium to full bodied with a fairly high level of carbonation. Juicy, spicy, and somewhat prickly with a drying finish. Some alcohol heat is felt but it isn’t overly hot.

Overall: A very good twist on the Piraat Ale. The added hops aren’t overpowering but add a nice juicy and floral kick. (1,620 characters)

Pours a hazed golden hue into a Delirium Tremens chalice it looks majestic big frothing white head with fine Belgian lacing left on my glassware.

Aroma has tart green apples and green fresh cut grass hop notes, even a bit of heavenly pilsner notes in a big Belgian ale…great stuff.

Flavor has juicy fruit upfront tart apples, raisins, herbaceous, citrus, and herbal grassy hops great triple hopped Piraat, I’ve been drinking the standard for over ten years. This stuff stands up to the original.

Malty layers explode on the palate nice carbonation carries the body very well, medium bodied with effervescent carbonation.

Overall a great interpretation of the original Piraat with a bit more hops! (705 characters)

[from notes] Stubby 33cl brown bottle of Privateer.
Poured amber; slightly hazy; very large and durable bone-colored head; bands of sticky lacing. A full pour still left some dark brown sediment in the bottle. Very appealing aroma with brown bread, ripe fruits and a hint of toffee. The flavor follows largely, with intensity building through the finish and into the aftertaste. Very good sweet/bitter balance with an overall slightly sweet character. High ABV is well hidden in the nose, but only partly hidden in the feel and upon tasting. Nice hints of raisins and brandied dates, along with some hop notes, in the aftertaste. Tastes considerably darker than it actually looks. O: less well known than Piraat but worth seeking out. (736 characters)

330ml stout as ever was bottle, a refugee from a current mixed Belgian pack from this brewery.

This beer pours a hazy, medium copper amber hue, with two fingers of puffy, densely foamy, and somewhat rocky ecru head, which leaves some stellar pockmarked concrete wall lace around the glass as it slowly abates.

It smells of tart tropical (pineapple, kiwi, and guava) fruit, semi-sweet bready caramel malt, musty leather, a weird milkiness, a soft earthy yeast sourness, and a touch of warming metallic alcohol. The taste is sweet, gritty, and grainy pale and caramel malt, an overdose of candy sugar, rather saccharine orange cream and spearmint-eque piney hop notes, musty, and strangely phenolic and funky yeast, and a sidling warming booziness.

The carbonation is fairly sedate, barely a tickle to be had for a song here, the body a steady medium weight, but seemingly sugar-boosted in its somewhat clammy and calculated smoothness. It finishes well off-dry, the muddled malt and sweetness addenda washing over any lingering hop aspirations, if there were ever any at all.

A crazily off-kilter beast, this one is - more Tripel-like in its base malt, yeast, and alcohol bearing, before the anemic attempt at hopping it up even has a chance to underwhelm. Too hot and throat aggrieving to really recommend as a good example of the style. (1,344 characters)

No distinguishable hop aroma at all, could smell only the alcohol. Taste follows the nose with nothing but alcohol. One of the booziest beers I have ever tasted. Couldn't even finish it. (186 characters)
