From the 330 ml. bottle marked 16AM. From the mixed six pack. Sampled on April 14, 2014.

The pour is a cloudy looking copper pale yellow with a modest off-white head and a lot of floating sediment! I love floating sediment! Big grade for that alone.

The aroma has all the Belgian yeast, biscuit malts, meaty fruit and candied sugars you expect with a bitter bite penetrating the nose. Pear and apple for the fruit character in about that order.

Medium to full body.

The toasted biscuit malts and fruit flavors are there but muted due to the earthy hop character that roars in from the background. It finishes dry with a bitter, memorable bite. 10.5% alcohol well integrated but I felt it by the time I finished writing this review.

Poured from a green label 750 ml corked bottle into a Duvel tulip glass.

Appearance: Pours a hazy golden orange with a lot of rising bubbles. Big two finger off white head which slowly settles into a thinner creamy layer. Leaves a lot of lacing.

Smell: A yeasty and fruit Belgian aroma with hints of spice along with citrus and earthy hops. Upfront scent of Belgian yeast with spicy hints of clove, peppers, and funk. Pale malt with hints of wheat, grains, caramel, straw, and biscuit. Floral and earthy hops with hints of damp grass. Citrus hop hints of orange, lemon zest, pineapple, and melon. Big Belgian fruit hints of green apple, pear, white grape, and banana. Also some hints of bubblegum and Belgian candied sugar along with some alcohol. A pretty good aroma.

Taste: Like it smells, a fruity and yeasty Belgian taste with big notes of spice, citrus, and earthy hops. Big upfront presence of Belgian yeast with spice notes of clove, pepper, and farmhouse funk. Pale malt with notes of grains, straw, wheat, biscuit, and caramel. Moderate floral and earthy hop presence with some grassy notes. Citrus fruit notes of lemon, orange, pineapple, and melon. Dried fruit notes of pear, green apple, banana, and white grape. Notes of bubblegum and sweet Belgian candied sugar. A very good Belgian taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium to full bodied with a fairly high level of carbonation. Juicy, spicy, and somewhat prickly with a drying finish. Some alcohol heat is felt but it isn’t overly hot.

Overall: A very good twist on the Piraat Ale. The added hops aren’t overpowering but add a nice juicy and floral kick.

Is this the improvement of the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple?

I call this one the best tripel I tasted in 2013.

L: okay ofcourse because of the hops; amber colour tells that this isn't a regular hoppy beer;
S: this is interesting! What is it? I conclude that it's a tiny bit of almond between lots of...malts. And the last thing is ofcourse also quite astonishing for a hop-called-beer.
T: malt, caramel, herbs, almond, orange, alcohol;
M: AWESOME!! The best heavy beer (10,5%) I've ever tasted; the sweets, the malts, the bitterishness, perfectly combined with the heavy alcohol wich doesn't hit you in the face; perfect carbonation; very, very drinkable.
O: Great, great beer. Is it so rare that nobody rates this one? Try it. My topper of 2013.

Pours amber with a large white head.
Nose shows caramel, spicy hops, booze and candy floss. Not overly complex.
Similarly sweet flavours, lots of sugary confectionery with some pear and apple notes. Some booze in the finish.
Nice moderate carbonation.

Short 375 bottle.. greenish label picked up at Brewer's Haven in Boise last week... pours a hazy light orange... sheets of white lace coat the goblet.

Big balanced pepper phenols/light apple esters dominate the nose.

Flavor mirrors the aromas perfectly... no problems with any of this bottle... very well done tripel expectations.

Light/medium body with abundant carbonation...

Honestly.. this is the best Steenberge NV I have had in years... Perfectly clean and very drinkable.

A: deep amber ale with an orange hue; faintly hazy with stream of bubbles from the bottom; a few fingers of soapy head left some patches of lace down the glass; streaming effervescence retained some head all the way down

S: sweetly fruity with hits of pepper and spiciness; fresh grain aroma; hints of tart yeast and chewy caramel

T: sweet fruit (like apple and pear) and spice right up front - fairly bold; bits of clove, mint, orange, and papaya, among others - some seemingly disparate flavor elements come together nicely; little bit boozy

M: tingly as if from spice, plush carbonation and slick ale; some stickiness on the finish; sweet pine resin aftertaste on the tongue

O: I'm guessing I'm drinking the second release of this ale, as my label is green (not yellow) and it says "Dry Hopped Ale" on the label - either that or I'm getting the US version of it - real good stuff, retains some distinctive Piraat flavors and aromas. Features the following hops: Saaz, Tetra, and Aurora, with Cascade for the dry hopping. Fans of Belgian pales and ales in general will probably be pleased. An interesting if not superior take on Piraat. Recommended.
