Made with 100% Munich malt. Is this a SMaSH brew?

A - despite being 100% base malt its a shade of light brown and carries an impressive head. I wonder if decoction mashing was applied.

A - some breadiness, nothing more. Won't knock it, since it wasn't foul, but the aroma did nothing for me.

T - They talk of too much Munich malt as being overwhelming. Either this brewery lied about the recipe, were ultra efficient with their mash and fermentation, or Munich malt hits the spot for me.

It was relatively boring compared to the other Bocks I've had lately. Nothing amour it was memorable or transcedant. On the other hand, it was almost too sessionable. Thank God I knew the ABV before ordering. It lacked complexity, but was perfect for mindless consumption

The reason it doesn't score higher is because of the sour yeast finish. Lagers are a BITCH. If you don't manage your fermentation the mineral and sour notes rear up. You want to take a gulp of this beer then spit it out before swallowing. Kinda gross.

M - thick enough, but not chewy or cloying. It's full-bodied enough for cold days, but lean enough that you don't mind drinking several.

O - Some English crystal malt and roasted malt might make this beer better than anything coming out of Germany - homebrewers can attest to the superiority of British Malta to Continental ones. Still, that product would still be ruined by the foul finish :-(

Triumph-New Hope- Winter Bock

Appearance- Hazy caramel orange/ brown with a thick heavy lacing head.
Smell- Candy malt with a nice strong earthy hop.
Taste- Sweet candy toffee malt, dirty earty hops, hop oil, and a touch of dried fruits (plum, raisin)
Mouthfeel- sweet up front, the body is full of flavor, and the end is mildly bitter and solid.

Overall- A solid beer throughout! A few growlers were filled and sold during my Thurs. 3pm visit. Definitely don't pass up on this.

Side note- It was a fresh keg, just tapped.

Frickety frack!

Menu says this is a bock in the Munich style. Triumph took the style and nailed it. Solid home run with a curtain call.

Creamy head. Goes down to very thick lace. Great bock color. Brown and black with ruby peaking through.

Smells are wonderful. When my wife had a sip, that's what she commented on.

Very smooth mouthfeel which becomes slightly less so as it warms.

In the taste, you have very nice bock sweetness and tastes. A nice, but subtle, hops presence in the finish.
