Le Gambrinus is the only beer bar in Mulhouse. It is a large and loud bar, where it is probably cool to go with groups of 10-15 people, but not that cool when you are only two or three. The bar has been designed in a somewhat German style, with large wooden tables, and no place for intimacy.

I was attracted to this bar by its supposedly incredible selection. I had heard they had hundreds of beers. They do, but only on the menu. I finally got my fifth pick… It was rather annoying, because the bartender didn’t tell us at first that they had many beers missing, and it wasn’t mentioned on the menu either. The service wasn’t really satisfying there. The waiter didn’t seem to have any specific beer knowledge, and talked to me as if I couldn’t understand what he was saying.

However, the beer was served in appropriate glassware and at an adequate temperature. They still have a decent selection of beers, you just have to be ready not to get your first choices.
I’d say it’s a bar where you should go often, to get the chance to try the most interesting brews they have. If you can only go there once, you might be disappointed.

Oh, and it’s not a brewpub, as they seem to pretend it is. The beer that’s sold under their name is produced in Belgium, (apparently by Lefebvre). (1,307 characters)
