A nice grocery store with a nice selection of beers. Nothing out of the ordinary, but one also has the option of getting a decent mixed six- pack for a good price

I stopped in here for a quick visit since I was nearby and figured I might as well. Selection seems a bit limited and the beers in the cooler are not exactly near the room temperature stuff. So keep that in mind if you go. I picked up a few single cans of DC Brau and Lost Rhino for $1.99 each, which was fine by me.

The bottom line is though, with Dominion just down the road, basically, with a superior selection, there isn't much use spending much time here, unless you can find a few singles here that you haven't elsewhere.

Atmosphere - It's a grocery store. It's full of customers, most of whom aren't interested in conversing about beer.

Quality - Nothing special here. The usual brews you can obtain pretty easily anywhere. Very nice displays. Clean Store

Service - Exactly what you'd expect at a Whole Foods. There aren't exactly people walking around looking to help you.

Selection - Not worth coming to unless you're collecting special release beer

Food - It's a whole foods. Best place to buy food as far as I'm concerned.

Prices - Significantly better than my homeland, Montgomery County

This location of Whole Foods is right along a main business district in Falls Church. Also look out for the Starbucks logo, being in the same plaza, so you do not pass it...busy road.

Anyhow, as you might imagine, this is mainly a grocery store, but they do have a beer section, albeit a fairly small one compared to some other Whole Foods locations. For me, coming from a few states away, it was easy to find a few interesting things such as DC Brau year-round, something from Williamsburgh Alewerks and Bells. They also had several offerings that is commonly found in New England such as Dogfish Head, Rodenbach, etc. For those passing through or visiting from out of sate, it is certainly worth checking out.

As has been said before, this place does not have too much space reserved for beers, but they do a fantastic job of maximizing that limited space. All of the selections are quality, and it's nice to see them supporting the local breweries so well (in fact, the Beer Guy told me that he had not sampled a certain brew, and had even heard it was only average, but he was excited to carry it because he likes to see the locals get some retailer love). Indeed, what has kept me coming back here is the service. The Beer Guy (I feel bad that I can't remember his name..though I want to say it's Jeff...) is always ready to offer a recommendation, a review, or even just talk about enjoying beer. I love him all the more because he helped secure me the only bottle of 2009 Utopias the store was to receive. Considering the seemingly outrageous prices for the rest of the store's wares, the beers are priced quite moderately, some cheaper than elsewhere and others more expensive. Still, the quality of selection and service will keep me coming back time and again.

(From notes)

Quality brews, that's what's important right? Great smattering of regional and local brews which is almost always important to out-of-towner BAs such as myself. Great selection of other US micros as well, and had the chance to pick up quite a few that I can't get in my normal area of residence.

I was offered help, but politely declined due to time constraints, so I'm probably not qualified to comment. It was nice that they offered, though.

Great selection of both cooler ready, as well as warm brews. The other reviews are right in that this place does not waste space...quality shelfing. My only complaint is that the singles selection was lacking. There were a few, but I wished more of the six packs were broken down....minor complaint though.

Definitely would recommend to those visiting the area...won't be disappointed.

ok so i have to give them props for service because i always end up talking to their beer guy and he tells me anything and everything about availability dates etc. for a normal beer store this may be par for the course, but for a grocery with a beer section, heck yea. the selection is all quality nothing bad on the shelves, though the variety might be lacking due to available space they don't waste space with "lesser" beers. I still rem when hopslam came out, this was the first place that reserved and saved me a six pack, and like other beer oriented stores, knew enough about the beer to limit ppl so "everyone could try it" while this impacted me negatively, it helped the beer community in my opinion and is not at all a bad thing

Great place, I'll go there twice a week to get some beer. They have a decent amount of beer, but I think that most than quantity is their beer selection and quality of service. Jeff the beer manager is very friendly and always happy to help. He knows detailed information of all the beer he has up there and will have an honest opinion on every beer they have available. He can give you direction if you have a particular style you like or help you find out the best selections in his opinion, everything has been great. They will keep the selection updated with seasonal crafts.

Some times Jeff can throw in some beer sampling before you decide what beer to take or sometime just because he already had a bottle open. Great!

I want to preface this by saying that I am a bit biased when it comes to this particular Whole Foods and the people who work there.

I think that the people at the store are fantastic. Jeff (The Beer Manager), Dave and the rest of the folks working there are friendly, welcoming, and are very knowledgeable! If you do decide to go for a brew, you should stay for the conversation! I owe these folks quite a bit for my beer knowledge and experiences as I found this place just after discovering my love of craft beer. They are always willing to give an honest opinion and to sample their available products (As an example, I recently got to try Burton Baton before buying it). These people are true ambassadors for, and of, craft beer!

The beer section is in a small corner of the store but is quite broad. Offerings include a range of Bells, Dogfish Head, Stone, Victory, Troegs, Oskar Blues, various Belgians (Chimay, Orval, Kasteel, etc.), and a broad selection of 22s. Jeff constantly updates the available inventory and pushes to get as many new products as possible. Consequently, the selections rotate often so the shelves never look the same way twice.

I highly recommend this store, the beer selection is great and the people that work there are even better!

This the Whole Foods location that I most often frequent whenever we are passing up through the Nor VA area (as it's close to the Sweetwater location that we enjoy too).

Selection does seem to flucuate depending on the visit. Often times, the wall of big bottles will be stocked with great stuff and the six pack selection is average or vice versa. On our most recent visit there wasn't that many new big bottles but they were flush with six-packs of everything new that Bell's had out at the moment. I always seem to find something good here though and they do pack in a good amount of brands for the amount of shelf space that they have dedicated to beer. They also have a small singles shelf that actually sometimes gets stocked with some pretty decent stuff like seasonals.

I can't really comment on service as I've never really sought anyone's help nor have I ever been asked if I needed any. Prices are reasonable (especially for the area) and are about on par with what I would pay in MD for singles, six-packs, and bombers.

I'm sure that other Whole Foods in the area may have a better selection than this one but heh, I'm from PA. I'm just thrilled to be able to buy some great beer in a grocery store.

Stopped in after the long drive south and left a quite happy to say the least. A whole foods is a whole foods so you know the setup. Nice and clean with a small section allocated just for beer. Many fantastic selections located at this establishment. I was standing in front of the cooler for probably ten minutes before I picked something out.

Stocked with your normals, Brooklyn, DFH, Victory, Stone, Smutty, Bear Republic, Weyerbacher, etc. But I was pleasently surprised to find Bell's, Troegs, West Coast, Firestone, and Delirium. Locals included Star Hill and OD. I was very surprised to see Cape Ann, which is local to me in Ma. They had a nice selection of bombers and sixpacks and a rack for singles which I pillaged. A very decent selection for a grocery store, but Whole Foods usually does a good job here and with the quality of the beer. German, English, and Belgian beers were lacking to say the least (besides delirium and chimay).

The lady who helped me get a box so that I could take a home a case of Nugget Nectar ($8.99 for a 6pk!!!!) wasn't very nice and actually a bit rude, though she did acquiese to my request. But it was later in the evening and I bet she was a bit tired from working all day. All decent prices. The mix 6pk. that I got was just rung in as a 6pk of OD ($7.99) Excellent...

For the shelf space allocated, the selection here is pretty good. A range of domestic craft brews and imports. Probably better on the domestics than the imports, upon reflection.

What I really like about this place is the beer manager. I chatted with him this evening and he said that, unlike most Whole Foods, they invite patrons to break sixers as they encourage sampling. How great is that? Plus, he's a hophead and very knowledgeable.

While the selection may be a bit smaller than Vienna, I'll return here whenever I'm in the area as I really like the opportunity to buy individual bottles.

Sizeable beer selection in the back corner of the store. Numerous domestic micro six-packs in a cooler, along with some import sixers and a few larger single bottles. Singles rack for micros is a nice touch (bottles are $1.49 each). About a fifty foot section of the back wall is stacked with sixers and many hard-to-find singles, like Russian River and Bear Republic, as well as Belgians and east coast breweries. Compared to my hometown Whole Foods (which, to be fair, has much less floor space), this is amazing. I'm quite impressed.

Not quite as large a selection as the store in Clarendon and blown away by the Vienna location, but you'll not be disappointed by the selection in the least. The local biggies all make an appearance: Dogfish Head, Victory, Old Dominion, Troegs, etc. Good import and West Coast selection as well, but there's more of an emphasis on the regional goodies. Prices are reasonable, with some beers being placed on sale for really great prices (and not because they are old either). The current beer manager for the store, Jeff, is an incredibly friendly guy and will bend over backwards to get what you want (and without you asking him to).

Select singles are available, but I'm not certain if breaking of all 6ers are allowed.
