Appearance: All but black in color with a decent dark tan colored head, which retains well. The lacing is excellent.

Aroma: Sweet aroma of dark malt, caramel, toffee, and dark fruits; quite appealing.

Taste: Begins with molasses, dark fruit, and toasted malt. Towards the middle of the taste, rich coffee notes appear. Finishes with a smoky, earthy note.

Mouth feel: Rich, smooth and full mouth feel.

Drinkability/notes: Brewed once every hundred batches - truly an excellent imperial stout

Sampled at the Texas Craft Brewer’s Festival on June 7th, 2003.

On tap at the Draught House on Feb. 12, 2010.

The beer pours black with a brown head. The aroma is roasted malt with some nice smoke. The flavor is roasted malt, smoke, coffee and citrus hops. The hops really come in strong at the end of the flavor. The alcohol is pretty well hidden. Creamy, medium-thick mouthfeel and low carbonation.

Draught House Pub's Century Stout

the beautiful half pint of Century stout is black as night with a thin mocha cap that holds up well, leaving a few spots of lace.

smells are predominantly black, bitter coffee, and citrus hops. dark fruit and a hint of smoke can also be appreciated.

a perfect blend of roasted black bitter coffee grounds and citrus, this brew is rich and complex, bitingly hoppy, and intense. smoke and dark fruits like raisins show up more when warm, and the sharp citrus fruit hops end it with a bite. the alcohol is hidden well.

mouthfeel thick, chewy, creamy. leaves a strong aftertaste of bitter coffee grounds and citrus.

drinkability? yes! i came back to the Draughthouse just to have some more of this beer. and i will be going back again. it's such a unique imp. stout. the combination of flavors is just perfect to me. i only wish that they sold growlers of the stuff.

Poured 1/2 finger head of dark brown foam. Pitch black. Beautiful.
Smell is a spicy hops. some roastyness.
Taste: very roasty, hoppy, well balanced.
Creamy mouthfeel.
Very drinkable.
I've had very few RIS's where the hops are as prominent and this is the best balanced one I've had.
Another superb beer from the Draught House.

Served on tap into a half pint glass.

A - Black and opaque. There is a ring of tan foam and little to no lacing.

S - Pretty well balanced with toasted malt, molasses, cocoa, and citrus hops.

T - Overall dry flavor. Initial flavors are toasted malt and bittersweet chocolate. There is an underlying smokiness. Although the aroma had citrus hops, I was nevertheless pleasantly surprised to find such a strong citrus hops aftertaste.

M - Medium bodied with somewhat higher than typical carbonation. The higher carbonation causes the beer to foam in my mouth, providing a creamier mouthfeel than the body of the beer itself. There is a slight graininess in some sips.

D - This beer hides the alcohol really well. I appreciate the half-pint servings at the Draught House, because it makes the price lower and it protects you from overindulging. However, this is another tasty offering from the Draught House where a half pint is hardly enough. I want more!
