My first visit to the Draught House and it was worth the excursion beyond the inner city bar scene. Having read some of the previous reviews I was expecting more complications than I actually encountered. True, the "beer line" is a very unusual concept. Not sure I like it but it sort of works with the general atmosphere where folks are walking all around the joint, inside and outside, including the parking lot, with beers in hand. So you stand in the line for a while to get your next beer. It seems the regulars don't mind it a bit. As for sitting at the bar, which is not very large but not impossible to access, we found the service was very solid. Not perfect, especially when they got busier as the Tuesday evening crowd grew, but the bartenders seemed to be working very hard to keep folks filled. I also found the bartenders very reasonably responsive and knowledgeable regarding the beer selection, which is really excellent with many Texas breweries represented and plenty of other highly credible micros available along with their own brews. And I tried one of their own IPA's and have to say it was up there with Hop Stoopid, really well done. We had a couple pizzas which were decent enough. The food selection is quite limited but the pies tasted just fine and really hit the spot. The decor of the place is classic German pub style. Lots of wood, dark, with big wooden tables inside and a large beer garden outside. It has a real nice feel the moment you walk inside. We met a couple of regulars at the bar that were extremely friendly and helped us out with selecting some local brews. The place was busy and at one point the line was well out into the parking lot for beer, but nobody seemed put off and the line moved along. The tenders really do hustle. I'm a big fan of Lovejoys from previous visits, but now that I've experienced this place I have to say I'll want to stop by both places on all future visits to Austin. Highly recommended!
