I've been a regular for years and have to say this is hands down the best beer bar in Austin.
While the inside of the bar is a bit cramped and can be loud the outside is where it's at. Sitting in the beer garden works especially for a big group, tail gating the parking lot is an Austin tradition, but my favorite place is on the bench by the front door, great people watching.
The atmosphere is wonderfully mellow, plenty of folks talking and having fun, but people are old Austin laid back.
Looking for a super mellow evening, no body is going to get in your business, I often go here and read a book.
But if you want to meet some new folks, people here are friendly and approachable, seating can be tight and I often share a table and get to know some new beer friends.
The servers are friendly and efficient, willing to chat about beer when it's slow and keeping the line moving on the weekends.
They have a good rotation of daily specials including cheep beer nights and free food.
Speaking of food the selection here is not the greatest, minimal pub fair if you need to eat, but honestly I rarely eat at pubs.
I could always ask for more taps but this place has a good variety and seeks out hard to find beer and casks ales.
The beer they brew here has improved over the years, they still miss every once in a while but it's worth it for the creative risks they are willing to take.
The few people I've seen have a bad time at this place should've been down on 6th street jello shot bar hopping, the bar tenders here like things on the laid back side and will send you on the way to keep it that way.
