12 oz bottle, poured into a pint glass

Appearance: Pours a pretty, clear, amber color with reddish highlights and a quarter of a finger of white head that quickly dissolved into a thin halo of foam that gripped the sides of the glass and formed wispy clouds that almost completely covered the top of the beer.

Aroma: Very malty and bready, but buttery too, like buttered toast, and notes of toffee and caramel.

Taste: Very similar to the aroma. Malty and buttery up front, followed by some toffee or caramel-like sweetness. Finished by some beautifully balanced hops. Delicious!!

Mouthfeel: Medium with quite a bit of carbonation to tickle the taste buds and make them dance. With an ABV of 5.4%, there is no presence of alcohol on the palate.

Overall: This is another damn good American version of an Oktoberfest beer, and one of the better one I’ve had this year! Great balance between malt, sweet and bitter. I’m definitely getting this again!!

Poured from the bottle into a pilsner glass.

Deep dark chestnut brown, and red amber dark body, with some orange hinting hues. Head forms lightly with little retention and a tan light colored appearance. Manages to leave a small puck while drinking. Very faint rising carbonation that's a little hard to see.

Nose is real nice. Slight biscuity aroma, and nice crisp toffee angles on the malt side. Kind of simple but quite nice, with some dry grain.

Palate matches the nose but with much more of a drying quality. Dry airing grain finish, light toffee with some hits of very hot clove and drying brown spices. Biscuity chewy quality slightly on first sip but with the dryness taking over and leaving a little more cracker sensing quality. Muted toffee. Decent depth on the palate to let the flavors come out.

Overall pretty solid drinkable marzen.

Appearance:
Pours a light and off-white head that does not last long. The beer itself is a brownish copper that is clear.

Smell:
The beer as a strong malty smell. The malts smell sweet and caramel with a hint of toffee. The malt appears to also be slightly bready but not by much.

Taste:
The malts taste like caramel with hint of hoppy bitterness that complements the malts very well.

Mouthfeel:
Biting carbonation and a medium body. The body is fairly light and smooth to drink.

Overall:
A pretty good Oktoberfest and one that I'll probably pick up every year if I'm in their distribution area during October.

Being I am in Richmond, this is my favorite beer PERIOD. I wait all year for it to hit the shelves.

A perfect balance of maltly goodness, sweetness, and yet light and easy to drink.

The only problem I have had are when getting it from a store where it has been in the frig too long or cold. It will get a bite to it then. BUt from a tap or a fresh case.. there is no finer beer. It makes Sam Adams Octoberfest taste like swill (and I love me some Sam Adams Octoberfest.. )

I will say I am very partial to Belgians and Octoberfests in general.. and this qualifies as my "Light" beer.
