bomber from a wf - if I remembered which, I’d return it

a: served in a short chalice, honey amber in color, white head with a ring retained

s: first sniff - some sort of mixture between artificial-butter and the stomach acid aroma of overripe papaya, really hard to move past this, but there are some caramel sugars and fruits underneath and a touch of grassiness

m: carbonation moderate-high on a medium body

t: more of the artificial butter and overripe papaya, sugary with some caramel sweetness, hops bland with a touch of metallic grassiness, unpleasant finish

o: not to be needlessly harsh, but I really thought this one was terrible - I’d quit purchasing Legend beers because so many seemed to be consistently plagued by some sort of brewing or QC issue, and this one is no exception

A- Nice (if typical) orange-gold hue with a half-inch or so of head on the pour. A persistent ring of lace persists (redundant, I suppose) after the inevitable head dissipation.

S- Heavy on the phenols with lots of ripe banana and clove, almost weizen-like. I detected a slight funky tartness right after pouring, but after a few minutes of warming it's pretty much all banana and clove.

T- Much yeastiness in the taste. A little sour grain at the start then a lot of dry, cracker-like malt and chalky yeast. None of the banana character that was present in the aroma comes through in the taste. A grassy bitterness emerges near the finish along with an odd, almost savory vegetal character. Finish is bone dry and moderately bitter.

M- Medium-bodied with very active carbonation. Decent for the style.

I suppose it's a decent beer although it's rather unremarkable. The aroma wasn't right for a saison, although it wasn't bad. The taste was a bit odd in parts and really wasn't particularly interesting or good. It's not a terrible beer, but it's average at best and one I probably won't seek out again.

Fairly decent light summertime beer. Not much as a Saison. Pours a light amber/dark apple juice color with a medium size delicately bubbly white head. Head retention is less than average. A light bit of lacing in the glass.

Aroma is apple juice with only the slightest bit of funk. Fairly mild aroma.

Taste is a bit more Saison-like but the light fruit is still the dominating flavor. There is more of a yeast presence/funky and musty barnyard flavor, but it is still pretty subdued.

Mouthfeel is crisp and light...refreshing.

Overall a fairly tasty beer but if you want an American Saison, stick with Ommegang Hennepin or something similar.

A darker shade of golden amber in the wine glass. Nice white foam on the initial pours, a little less after the glass is coated. Pleasant sparkly mouthfeel. A little banana in the nose along with a whiff of cider.

This starts out with a rich malty note, like a Hefeweien. Then the yeasty dryness opens up. Plenty of Belgian character with a bitter aftertaste. Distinctive pear flavor with an apple skin bite. It makes me think of some of the complex flavors of a very dry French cider.

Throughly drinkable fruity style of Saison with the tart side as well as the malty sweetness. From the 22 oz bottle bought at Whole Foods in Foggy Bottom.

A: Hazy orange, slight rose colored body with a pure white head that slowly fades down to a thin layer. After the head subsides, it still keeps the thin layer occluding visibility through the top of the beer which is desirable. Small islands of lacing on the glass. No visible carbonation.

S: Not much nose. There is a faint familiar horse scent, but it's like the horse left the barn a week ago. There is a slight scent of wet cardboard as well. Not much to go on in the scent department.

T: Mild is an overstatement. There is very little flavor and it is hardly discernible. I get some very light spice and some earthy hop character. The bitterness is fairly strong compared to the other non-existent flavors, as if anticipating to counter-balance something that just isn't there.

M: The mouthfeel is light but deceptive. It feels very well in the mouth, being that there are no obtrusive flavors to mar the palate. I can only judge what is here, so yes, the mouthfeel is very nice. The beer is highly drinkable, but so is water.

O: Overall I was not happy with this beer at all. I expected more from this brewery. In the end I was left with something that tasted like a light weissbier. The most interesting part of this beer, is the story about a fake city near Richmond, VA during WW2. Where is the Saison?!
