This is a fairly straight-ahead beer. While there isn't anything particularly spectacular about it, this beer is well rounded and very enjoyable. Pours with a half-inch head which dissipates into a thin head and good lacing. Flavor is predominantly of malt- perhaps vienna- with an unusually subtle hop bitterness to keep the malt sweetness in check. The carbonation is slightly lower than most commercial beers which allows the malt flavor, rather than the hop presence, to dominate. Recommended.

A - Pours a beautiful clear copper with more than a finger of creamy tan head. Head has good retention and leaves some nice lacing.

S - Toasted grain and caramel malts are predominant. Also some spicy hops. Smells pretty good, clean and simple.

T - Spicy hops are more prominant in the taste than the smell. Still, nice balance with the toasted grain, with the caramel malt taking a back seat. More spicy hops than my favorite Oktoberfests, but pretty enjoyable.

M - Medium mouthfeel with a crisp, dry finish.

O - Doesn't standout in any particular way, but a pretty good beer that I would have again.

12oz brown bottle with no freshness date.

LOOK: Mildly hazed brass.

SMELL: Toasted grain, yeast, bread, spicy hop, flour, doughy biscuits.

TASTE: Smooth, clean, very toasty, dried grass, herbal, spice, light grainy biscuit, lemony hop, fresh.

Perhaps a little rough around the edges but I can get past that real quick with a malt character that make me think. I'll have not problem quaffing back the other bottles I have sooner than I think. A great O-fest.

This Oktoberfest is a sort of coppery-brown, murky in color but fairly clear. The head is more of a wispy foam, or at least it lasts longer as that than its very original form. Mottled lace is left behind sparsely.
There's a lightly grainy edge in the nose, but more toast than anything. There's a bready element to strengthen the malt foundation and a bit of herbal hop leaf to balance. It takes on a bit of mineral, and is a little rough around the edges with minimal sweetness, but it works well.
The flavor is, like the aroma, mainly toasty with some doughier notes, but set alongside it it equal strength is some citrus, more zest (peel) than anything and more orange/grapefruit than sour or tangy. It's also balanced by leafier/herbal hops. There's a little nut, and a touch of grass lingers softly.
The feel is nice and clean with a smooth flow and a nice, strong crispness that's not too hard for the medium body.

Picked up a single at Abe's Cold Beer. Eh, not a lot to say about this one. It has a clean, smooth bready caramel malt character with touches of toast and fruit juice. The finish is dry and the body is appropriately balanced for decent drinkability. It's similar to the Munich classics, but with a little less depth. Not a bad beer at all. I wouldn't mind having a fresh pint.

Last week I picked up a six pack of Frankenmuth Oktoberfest at Krogers for $9.99. I'm in the mood for an Oktoberfest tonight so I thought that I would try my local brewery's example to see how it stacks up to the rest. No visible bottling date. Poured from a brown 12oz bottle into a mug.

A- The label is pretty plain and simple with the typical blue and white Oktoberfest pattern, I really like the custom caps for this beer, they look really nice. It poured a nice light caramel copper color that was pretty clear. It had three fingers worth of fluffy white head that died down to a rocky fingers worth that left lots of nice spotty lacing that all in all made for a good looking Oktoberfest.

S- The aroma is pretty light and subtle. It starts off with a good amount of bready malts along with a bit of caramel malts. The aroma is pretty sweet, it may be the sweetest smelling Oktoberfest I have encountered. The hops are noticeable and provide some good balance, they smell like a half in half mixture of spicy and earthy/grassy hops. The aroma has good balance, but it isn't the most interesting.

T- The taste starts of with that nice mixture of caramel and bready malts that I picked up in the aroma, but when it comes to the taste the caramel malts seem to stick out the most, but this beer still keeps a pretty prominent bready flavor and it isn't nearly as sweet as the aroma was. The hops are earthy and spicy, it seems like they lean more toward the spicy side which along with the larger hops presence makes this beer stick out from some of the more traditional Oktoberfests. The finish was more bitter then most, but it wasn't over the top.

M- Crisp, clean, medium bodied and carbonation was on the high side but I really liked it and I thought it worked very well, the mouthfeel of this beer is how a good Oktoberfest should be.

Overall I feel like this is a good Oktoberfest, but compared to others it's just slightly above average. There's nothing off or wrong about this beer but as far as the flavor and aroma go they feel a little subdued, I know this isn't the most flavorful style but I have had other ones that have managed to squeeze out more flavor, so I know it can be done. The flavors and aromas that were there were nice and true to the style and they were balanced well even with the more larger hops profile that this beer had, I liked that and I wouldn't change it, but a little more caramel malts to go along with those hops would have been perfect. As in any properly done Oktoberfest, this beer has great drinkability, a six pack of this wouldn't be hard to make disappear when I am in the Oktoberfest mood. What I liked most about this beer was the Mouthfeel, it was perfect for it's style, it also had a very good appearance. What I like least about this beer was the aroma, it was a duller then most. I don't think I would choose this over some of the other Oktoberfest's, I like to buy local but when Samuel Adams Oktoberfest is cheaper and tastier, Frankenmuth Oktoberfest gets overlooked. This beer is worth a try but it isn't really a stand out for it's style. Not a bad beer but so far it's my least favorite offering from the Frankenmuth Brewery, but I think with a couple tweaks in the recipe this beer could hold its own with some of the big dogs, the hop profile is a stand out and I like that.

Frankenmuth Oktoberfest pours a very clear orange amber color that is on the lighter side of the marzen spectrum. It has a nice beige head that has excellent retention and leaves equally nice lace on the sides of the mug.

The aroma is bready and sweet with a big dose of caramel sweetness. This brew does not seem as toasty or grainy as some other examples of the style.

The flavor mimics the aroma in that it is very sweet with loads of caramel. There is also a bit of toffee and a slightly earthy hop character. There is a very small amount of graininess but other than that it is a pretty clean brew. My only gripe is that this beer seems exceedingly sweet for style.

The mouthfeel is medium with a soft carbonation. The finish is much like most of the other aspects of the beer, meaning that the caramel plays a big part.

Overall this is a pretty drinkable beer that does not really have anything wrong with it. As I mentioned before I find it a bit on the sweet side, but it is not a deal breaker. I can’t say I would seek this out again, but I would also not be upset if it was offered to be at a sausage fest.

A - Pours a pale copper with a one finger white head and no lacing.

S - Smell wasn't very impressive for the style, Bread, Slight Munich malt, Maybe a little bit of toast as well.

T - Bread, Toast, feint grapes, lightly toasted malt

M - Smooth creamy light body with low carbonation. Probably the best thing about this beer.

O - Overall, This is an average Oktoberfest, and an average beer in general. I will avoid in the future unless handed one.

On tap at the brewery.

A: Light copper in color, slight orange hue. Served to me with just a thin cap that dissipates in a hurry. Zero lacing.
S: Lots of graininess, slight grassy hop. One note.
T: More sweet grains, very slight hoppy finish.
M: Medium mouthfeel, dry finish.
O: Average, could use more of a full flavor, especially more carmal malt IMO.

Sadly this is contracted to Point. Saw a 6 pack for 6 bucks so I figured I would try it. 12 oz twist-off.

It pours a bubbly orange with a quickly dissipating white head that leaves almost no lacing.

The smell is papery and nutty.

The flavor is better. A hint of diacetyl (perhaps the ineptitude of the Point brewers or brewing equipment.) The paper note comes through along with some caramel, nuts, and noble hops.

It is better than the point oktoberfest and it has potential but it kind of flopped.

A: Clear, nice head that eventually becomes a really good lacing. Clear golden color.

S: Grains, hops, bread

T: Apples/pears. Slightly cidery. Grains. Bread.

M: Malty. Smooth. Easy to drink.

Overall: Decent beer. Easy to drink, but it seems a little too fruity for me.

Bottle poured into a Siciliano's mug. Surprised it was a twist top after prying it off.

A- A 1-finger, khaki head settles to a ful film (about 1/4-finger). Clean, copper body showcases medium-heavy carbonation. There are some awesome sticky rings left behind on this one.

S- It comes off as very balanced at first. Sweet, bready/doughy malts mix with light, leafy hops that are crisp and slightly spicy. It could be a little more robust, though warmth helps in that regard.

T- More caramel than the aroma suggests. There's also a bready or doughy quality to the malt profile. The malts are nicely balanced by plentiful (for the style), spicy hops. It does stay on the malt side, as it should.

M- Great feel. It's clean, yet toothy. Full bodied with medium-heavy carbonation. Just what I look for in the style. Dryish finish.

O- It's a good example of the style. There's more balance than the very common caramel-malt bombs I've run into. Frankenmuth continues to sell me on the idea that they can put together some great German style beers. This one is very sessionable. It could become a "go-to" Oktoberfest for me.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, no bottle dating. Pours fairly clear orange copper color with a nice 2 finger dense off white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Good spotty lacing clings to the glass. Aromas of caramel, apple, pear, biscuit, grape, toast, nuttiness, herbal, floral, and light earth. Pretty nice aromas with decent strength and balance. Taste of caramel, toast, biscuit, apple, pear, nuttiness, herbal, grass, and earthy spiciness. Small amount of spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of light fruit, caramel, toast, biscuit, and herbal on the finish for a good bit. Good balance of flavors with decent complexity. Fairly robust with no cloying sweetness at all. Medium carbonation and body; with a fairly creamy and crisp mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a nice oktoberfest. Good flavor balance; very crisp and smooth to drink. Enjoyed this quite a bit.

S- Caramel and light fruits including apples and pears.

T- Caramel and light fruit. Simple and tasty.

A: Pours a clear deep orange with a decent sized frothy white head. Fades slowly with a huge island of foam remaining behind. Moderate fluffy lacing is left on the glass.

S: Grassy and moderate grainy malt. Very subtle aroma.

T: Decent caramel with moderate grassiness up front. Finishes moderately bitter with a touch of herbal and grassy hops.

M: Medium bodied and smooth.

O: A very simple marzen, as is typical of the style. Sweet caramel instead of a more grainy, bready malt is a decent departure. Tasty and drinkable at least.

Pours a very nice copper orange color. There is a bit of haziness to it, which is nice. A low white head is created at first, but it goes away very quickly.
Smell has a nice balance of malt and hop. Maybe a little too strong on the hop for me with an Oktoberfest. However, some nice caramel and sweet hop smells.
Taste is okay. A bit of caramel matls, and a really sweet aftertaste.
Mouthfeel is a little thin, not much going on.
Drinkability is good with this beer. A pretty good balance and easy to chug.

A. Orangish-amber in color, clear, has a receding foam collar for a head that flashed down to nothing in about 20 seconds, very little lacing left behind.

S,T. Very light sweet breadiness and some wispy thin earthy hopping. Could have used some kind of toasted or nutty component, but there was none to be found.

M. Medium body and carbonation.

A rather mediocre Marzen when compared to other offerings from the same style.

Pours out an amber colored hue with a foamy white head that leaves some nice retention and pretty lacing. The carbonation is moderate with a medium body. The nose consists of caramel along with some grains. The taste starts out with caramel, grains, some hops and hints of fruit in the back. Not too sweet or bitter, thought it could have used more caramel and more fruity taste in the back, but still a decent beer. The mouthfeel is a nice crisp clean smooth finish that leaves the mouth slightly dry and overall it is a beer worth giving a try.

Light hop esters are vaguely present in the aroma, with some flowery notes.

The head is short, smooth and cream colored, with spotty lacing left behind as the head quickly recedes. A tip of the glass stein for a sip quickly restores a layer of foam from the active carbonation below. The brew is very clear and a copper-amber color.

A well-balanced blend of grains gives the flavor good depth and roundness, with solid malts up front, a hint of sweetness in the middle palate, and just enough hops in the finish to freshen up the tongue for another sip. Sufficiently carbonated for a smooth traverse down the hatch after a lively swish in the mouth. As Oktoberfest beers go, this one is as good as most, and definitely worth sampling.

Its serves a clear but not brilliant deep amber/copper, with a tawny tan low but persistent head.

There is a rich Continental malt aroma - lots of caramel and toast with the bready pilsner aroma. There is a touch of raisin and prune but no estery fruit aroma to speak of. It is clean. There is a touch of spicy hop aroma but this a very malty beer in the aroma.

It is sweet and malty in the sip but there is a surprising amount of spicy hop flavor and bitterness that dries the beer out somewhat. There is a bready, malty character that lingers, but the peppery Noble hop flavor asserts itself and remains present through the swallow. I thought I got a touch of diacetyl in the nose and it was confirmed in the flavor - a touch distracting.

The mouthfeel is medium full, with a moderate somewhat creamy carbonation and a vaguely sweet full finish.

This is a good to great Oktoberfest overall, especially by American Craft beer standards. This is a style that Americans just can't seem to get. It's better than most in America. It's a little rough around the edges and a little caramelly compared to it's Munich based progeny, but not too bad..

A: Amber, red with a sticky white head that leaves nice lacing behind.

S: sourdough, yeast, a little malt.

T: Fruit, sweet floral malts with a satisfying sour, bready finish.

M: Crisp, clean with perfect carbonation.

O: One of the better oktoberfests I've had the pleasure of tasting. I love visiting the town of Frankenmuth, but - oddly enough - I had never tried one of their local brews until now. I've been missing out!

This had a nice light brownish amber color. The head was as off white color. The smell of the beer was of some autumn aromas and sweet malts. The taste of the beer was slightly sweet with a dry finish and just a subtle amount of spice in the end. The mouthfeel was decent, nothing too exciting really. Overall this beer was decent in my opinion.

Poured out of a 12 oz bottle into a pint glass.

A – Poured out a slightly hazy copper brown with a half finger of white head that had decent retention. No real lacing.

S – Sweet malt, bread and corn.

T – Light malt, bread, hops and a touch of caramel. Oddly bitter at the end.

M – Medium bodied with solid carbonation. Lively on the palate.

O –There was an odd biting bitterness at the end of the taste. It just finished off kilter for me. Its nice on the palate and pleasant smell but just odd at the end.
