A: Nice deep amber color pours to a fingers worth of head that dissipates to a very nice veil of lace that coats all across the top and clings all the way down.

S: Very nice floral hops up front with some citrus tones and very mild dark fruit aromas.

T: Very bitter from the get go. Hops bitterness just pops ya in the mouth. Alot of bitter citrus rind at the end with some spice and pine flavors coming thru as well. Aftertaste is hops bitterness and rind.

M: Medium carbonation works well with the bitterness and lets the flavors stick around for awhile.

O: Very hoppy and bitter beer. Moreso then I normally like but its not unenjoyable. Would like to try it on tap.

Notes from 2/12/11

A - Pours a somewhat hazy deep golden brown with three fingers of pillowy off-white. Nice rising carbonation. Leaves some nice lacing.

S - Subtle citrus hop aroma. Overall, aroma is underwhelming.

T - I don't see a freshness date, but believe this is pretty fresh. Hops are definitely the dominant component of the taste. Mostly citrus with some pine. Decent amount of malt to balance.

M - Medium mouthfeel with some lingering bitterness.

O - Certainly not a bad beer, but compared to other available IPAs, this is a little underwhelming and doesn't really stand out.

12oz brown bottle with no freshness date.

LOOK: Massive head, hazy amber.

SMELL: Citric, spice, biscuity grain, yeast, pears.

TASTE: Hop bitterness, grainy, yeasty, dried hay, herbal, astringent, fruity, dry.

Raw comes to mind, a bit more yeast character than I was expecting. Hop bitterness is at a fine level but the hop character on a whole is blindly flailing at the palate. Decent for the style though does not come close to the benchmark for it.

12 oz bottle, undated but purchased arlier this month near the brewery.

Pour is hazy with a high level of visible carbonation. The amber body is topped by a proportionate and durable off-white head.

Both the aroma and the flavor reflect a slightly skunky element that is subtle enough to possibly be part of the hop component. In any case hops have citrus, pine and herbal aspects. Solid malt base. Mildly bitter finish and aftertaste are better.

Medium body with crisp, lightly aggressive carbonation.

The color is a clear amber-yellow, maybe even just verging on amber but not quite that dark. There's persistent bubbling activity, though the head never rises more than one finger and recedes fairly quickly. It does, however, retain a sturdy layer that drops a ring and some patches of lacing.
I like the aroma, though some might dislike that the bready malts vie for prominence with the floral and citrus notes (not so much pine, as advertised, though a whiff is there). The hops do win out, though.
The flavor profile is interesting, and after I get past the spritz on the tongue, I get an interesting sweetness in there along with a pithy sort of bitterness. It also gets very minty, too much so for the profile to work completely. It does seem a little muddled. As an IPA, this one's middle of the pack until it's fine-tuned.
As mentioned, there's a spritzy feel in this beer's light-medium body. They may have overshot refreshing, as it never fades off and, while smoothness does come in, it's a little too filling; these two contradictory things combined don't work, though it's not terrible.

Thanks to semibaked for throwing this one my way. pours a hazy apple cider hue with a nice two finger head that leaves pretty stunning lace. the color and the haze is a bit funky, but looks nice.

aroma is somewhat subdued, with notes of caramel apple, lemon zest, and touch of floral spice and a bit of doughy yeasty bread.

flavorful with doughy bread up front with herbal hops, floral hop notes, with hints of straw, tobacco, and leather. strong, with some substantial alcohol esters. reminds me flavor-wise of a strong double ipa... not necessarily a bad thing.

mouth is pretty creamy, a touch slick, but ample carbonation helps smooth everything out. body is moderate, and lingering bitterness is clean and pleasant.

all in all, very enjoyable... a touch on the strong and overbearing side for an ipa, but that doesn't mean it wasn't delicious - just not quite what I was expecting. If this one were local, I'm sure I'd be drinking it fairly regularly.

A- Pours a hazy amber/ copper colored with a creamy two finger off white head. Talk about hang time, this head doesn't know how to quit. After five minutes there is still a one finger head. 10 minutes reveal a decent cap that remains until the final swallow. Ironically the lacing from it is light. Huh.

S- Modest hop bitterness with lemon, pine and juicy tropical fruit notes. A sweet malt presence backing it up.

T- Right away there is a battle for supremacy of my glass. The subtle bitterness in the nose is re-enforced with a powerful flavor bomb that brings out the citrus, pine and tropical fruit. Not to be outdone however the sweet bready malts step it up as well. Somewhere in the middle the malt flavor gains ground and takes the lead. But in the end the bitterness pushes back and in a bittersweet stalemate, Peace resumes. There are no losers here.

M- Medium bodied brew leaving a buttery/waxy feel.

O- This brew is a perfect example of a Midwest IPA. Bold hop presence with a strong malt backbone. I've had this beer before and I don't think I cared for it as much as this go around. Maybe they tweaked the recipe, maybe my pallet. Good overall and I will enjoy this one again.

12oz bottle
Served in a conical pint glass

A - It has an amber color with gold highlights. It has yeast suspended in it. Two inches of off white head weakly cling to the glass.

S - It is not very aromatic. I get some caramel malt and citrus hops.

T - I get a blend of caramel malt and citrus hops. It tastes more like an APA

M - Moderate

O - It's a decent beer. It's not one for hopheads though. It's kind of a weak IPA.

Label indicates this is an American IPA; style listed on Ba at the time of this review is APA.

A: Great start - golden copper pour, nice 2-3 finger head that resembles billowy white clouds.

S: Modest hop nose that hints at an IPA.

T: Nice bitterness throughout that is accenuated by the carbonation. Hops zing across the back of the tongue rapidly at the start and finish.

M: Pretty well carbonated, yet still manages to coat the mouth and keep your taste buds entertained for several seconds after each sip.

D: High marks here also - down to about 2 ozs left in the glass by the time I finished this review.

Relative review: if Flower Power tastes like a milder version of Two Hearted, then Batch 69 is a milder version of Flower Power.

Fine effort from the folks in Frankenmuth.
