Reviewed from notes. Had on-tap at TBBC sitting on the outdoor patio. Served in a pint glass.

A: Very dark, essentially black, with a half-finger's worth of tan head and just a few stray bubbles of carbonation crawling up the side.

S: Roasted malts, vanilla, tobacco, coffee, and roasty bitterness.

T: Follow the nose almost exactly, with the addition of some bitter cacao flavor to compliment the vanilla. Has a dry, moderately bitter finish.

M: Light body for the style but not a watery feeling. Moderate alcohol presence and carbonation sensation on the low side.

O: This is a solid American Stout. Nothing I'd stand in line for, but a good beer. Also, you can use it to make a mean ice cream float.

First had: on tap and on cask at the brewpub in Tampa

Whew...what a mess. Tried both the tap and cask versions in sampler form, but to be fair, I'll only do one rating. Looked good enough, dark black pour with a small, dense cap of beige head that receded to a ringlet; minimal lacing. Distant aroma, roasty dark malts and not much else. Taste was brutal. Thinned out dark malts, grain husks, coffee grounds, liquefied burnt toast, used tea bags. Tasted and felt more like a skunked dark kolsch than any kind of stout I've ever had. Weak. Body was light-medium. Quite frankly, this beer was completely undrinkable, and I couldn't even hold my nose and finish the samplers. In the world of craft beer, this is one of the worst I've ever had.

A full pint of used motor oil with a 1/4" of tan foam shows up and beckons me to imbibe. OK. Faint lacing. Minimal retention.
Smell is toasted malts, coffee, hops, cardboard and molasses. Decent balance and complexity.
Taste follows exactly the smell. Balance good here, too.
Nearly full body with a light - medium effervescence. Drying finish. Slight coating of the upper palate. A solid performer.

Pours a dark black with a creamy tan head, nice retention and creamy walls of lace.

The aroma is roasty, big coffee notes and chocolate undertones with vanilla hints and caramel.

Simple, roasty and sweet with dark malts, hints of dark fruit and chocolate. Nothing complex, but tasty. Slightly too roasty in balance.

A little thin for a stout, but ok.

Overall, nowhere near my favorite stout. Simple, easy drinking, and nothing offputtting. OK.

Nitro-tap into pint glass.

Pours pitch black with a thick and dense one finger head that lasts forever (from the nitrogen). Forms solid rings of lacing. The malts are roasty, but not as robust, both in the aroma and flavor. Overall, it has very creamy tones, along with a little coffee.

A good stout, maybe a little on the tamer side in the flavor department. Still, recommended for the stout people out there.

Poured a nice black color, though somewhat clear. A nice tan head with some lacing. Smells of burnt coffee and chocolate. A chocolate flavored beginning with some roasted malt in the middle and a bitter burnt coffee finish. Medium in body though a bit thin for a stout, high in carbonation. Easy to drink and flavorful, though a bit unbalanced and lacking a punch.

The ol’ rat was one of the better offerings at TBB. I was greeted with a massive rocky tan head, on a black pour – looked like a dollop of ice cream on that baby. Nice lacing all the way down.

Ummm, chocolate malt in the aroma. Then, good ol’ burnt toast, chocolate and coffee in the quaff – quite standard but not skimped upon. It was still a lite bodied, smooth and creamy, maybe just a touch too thin. A real dessert brew, but drinkable over the long haul.

This is an amazing stout. The first thing I noticed was the amazing head of foam. The texture looked more like whipped cream than beer foam. The flavor was nice and malty, with less hop flavor than many other stouts. Very easy drinking. Definately a stout to try if you are in the Tampa area.

Made with British Pale, Black Patent, roasted barley, and flaked barley. Northern Brewer hops. Served on nitro-tap.
Clear, black and opaque in the dim lighting of the brewpub. Aroma is rich, roasted and lightly fruity, a veritable clone of Guinness. Taste begins with mellow tobacco, smoke, green moss, followed by mild earthy bittering hops and roasted black patent in the finish. Mouthfeel is sharp, burnt and lightly acidic with a medium-dense body. Not as creamy as I would expect for a nitro-tap. A good representative of the Irish Dry Style Stout.

Deep black rich color, nice fluffy tan head, lots of bubbles popping through. Lots or roasted carmel, and burnt coffee smells. Taste was noticable hoppy to start, then dominated by strong bitter burnt coffee tastes. A very bitter beer. A rich full beer, but not necessary full bodied stout. Little too much hoppy flavor, IMO. Would de decent with a spicy meal, but not a beer that stands out.
