Another awesome and tasty beer from Feather River Brewing Company.
All of these reviews puzzle me since I've had all three in bottles from the local stores in Paradise / Magalia CA and on Draught in also Paradise / Magalia CA . But I have recently had all three beers fresh from the brewery during a brewery your and they only tasted even better . Please please please visit this brewery and taste and see for yourselves before judging the bottled beer especially if you don't live within a 2 hour drive of the brewery . Fresh is best and the only way to really judge a beer

Pour: 22oz bottle to pint glass. A hearty pour yields a nice dark brown body w/ one finger tan head. The beer, while dark, shows clear carbonation throughout. The head dissipates to nearly nothing, just a thin halo around the outside of the glass.
Nose: Grain & fruit, some light roast character. It smells light & refreshing. Nutty coffee aroma. Not overly complex, but is that some banana I'm getting there?
Mouth: Dry, roasty, and easy drinking. Plenty of carbonation - somewhat of a soda-like mouthfeel. Flavors of light-roast coffee, toffee & caramel... everything you expect from a porter, but nothing to set it apart. Some notes of honey & anise. Not the best aftertaste - slightly sour. However, the beer goes down very easily. Will enjoy all the way to the bottom.

Poured into a New Belgium globe.
Appearance: Pours out pretty thick for a porter, and a nice dark brown head forms on top. Unfortunately, the retention is really lousy; it recedes to a hair-thin halo in less than a minute. Body is as close to black as brown can get; nearly opaque. Only a tiny bit of light peaks through near the top of the glass, and that's only when the beer is held to light. Very light lacing.
Smell: Roasted malt and salty Chinooks are the two big aromas that I'm getting. I suppose mocha is in there as well. Pretty simple - that's about it.
Taste: This started out really nice; the first couple of sips were damn good. Unfortunately, there's an odd aftertaste that continues to build with each successive slurp. It's hard to get past. It's kinda sour, but also stale. It reminds me of old cheese - parmesan cheese. Maybe noodles as well. It's becoming really off-putting at this point. Is it the water? Roasted malt and mocha are hidden underneath, along with some piney bitterness in the finish. Too bad, this showed promise...
Mouthfeel: This feels nice. Crisp, but not overdone, carbonation. Somewhat creamy. A little fuller in body than most porters, but I typically like that. The aftertaste is mild and long-lasting, which would have been great if only it tasted better. Overall, the mouthfeel is nicely done.
Drinkability: This is one step away from being a great porter. That flavor that dominates the aftertaste is funky, but that's the only big problem with this one. Hopefully my man up in Magalia can get that worked out.

A - Black with ruby/brown highlights small tan head that left quickly. No lacing.
S - I am having a hard time smelling anything! Quite odd.
T - Lots of roasty and smoked malts. A slight dose of citrus hops. Suprisingly tasty considering I couldn't smell the beer at all
M - a little thin, I would like to see a little more body
D - pretty decent beer but the fact that I can't smell the beer is just weird.
