look: 3.5 | smell: 4.5 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4 | overall: 4.5

Best before end date: 881075??

Pours a hazy honey color with a 3 fingers deep eggshell head. Stays hazy, minimal lacing & head retention

S: Big-time banana & cloves

T: Big time banana & cloves up front; peppery spice follows with hint of lemon & bandaids. Juicy fruit quenching wetness follows up. Finishses quenching, fruitty with banana dominating the taste profiles.

MF: Light/medium bodied with low carbonation & juicyness

Drinks pretty easy, very refreshing, hefe purists will love this. I couldn't do more than 2 at a sitting, the strong flavors are not to my wheelhouse

Poured from a 500mL bottle into my Ayinger weizen glass.

Best before code: 881085 - (huh?).

Liquid is a cloudy light-gold/sunglow with a thin white head which recedes into a gently lacing ring surrounding an archipelago of carbonation.

Aromatics are very characteristic of the style, with prominent banana esters with hints of (in diminishing order) vanilla and honey, bubble-gum, clove and cardamom. A light wheat aroma is present as well but very subdued.

Palate is wheat, malt, a hint of citrus, more banana, wheat again, yeast, light spice. The flavors are well balanced and intermingle. Slightly sweet, then tart, then spicy, with a somewhat dry bready finish. Few if any hops. Excellent and perfectly refreshing.

Fairly creamy, though not as effervescent as hoped. Carbonation is OK, but could be higher.

A little more balance or intensity would improve things ever so slightly, but this remains an outstanding summer beer.

Half-liter swingtop bottle, best before 881075, whatever the hell that means. It pours an opaque peach/grapefruit juice color, with medium carbonation and a fluffy, white, three-finger head that leaves light lacing. The aroma is decadent, with loads of fresh bananas, lemon zest, a clove spiciness, tart wheat, yeast, grassy and floral hops, vanilla and perhaps pears. It tastes quite similar, with banana pudding and nilla wafers, cloves, lemon, yeast, and spicy/grassy/noble hops that impart a mild bitterness. The body is light/medium, fairly carbonated (almost tingly), yet smooth body that delivers a medium finish. Overall a very complex, yet traditional hefeweizen that is packed with flavor and aroma.

Presentation: .5 liter swing top brown bottle with a “best before end” freshness date on the back label.

Appearance: Cloudy golden beige hue, thin lacing yet stays for the duration.

Smell: Ripe banana soaking in lemons and clove with a yellow cake maltiness in the back.

Taste & Mouth Feel: Very smooth with a creamy back in the mouth feel. Huge fermented wheat flavor, it screams fresh malt all over. Rounded spicy clove is the only savior to help balance the mild tartness, banana fruitiness and dough maltiness.

Drinkability & Notes: Wow! One of the most impressive German hefe-weizens I have had this year. A simple smoke turkey sausage on a wheat hoagie roll with some slaw was a perfect pairing.

Luminescent yellow color with a tinge of orange, can't get much cloudier than this, fully opaque, pours a thick froth which swiftly releases. Banana, clove, gingerbread, apricot paste, vanilla pudding, a bit intense in the sweetness of the scents but if you dig it, you'll really dig it. Lower yet persistent carbonation helps churn up the sweetness of the same array, banana, apricot, cinnamon, nutmeg, fresh whipped cream, even if in the end all that wins. Grapey too, a fruity styled beer. Long, full finish. Not a refreshing hefeweizen, a satisfying one.

Pours out golden straw and sits a cloudy gold in the glass with a large soapy white head. Initial burst of violent carbonation subsides to a gentle flow. Without the swing top firmly attached to the bottle, I would surely have been blinded by the hard plastic cap. Head fades to a light skim on the surface leaving few lacings.

Smells fruity, filled with bananas, tangerines and ripe pears on all sides. Creamy, dough-like yeastiness thickens up the aroma. Buttermilk-like feel, and some light biscuit aromas.

Tastes mildly sweet, big banana presence. Mild sourness, on the line of an orange, balances out the sweetness along with a solid line of hop bitterness. Paper-like bitterness dries the toungue and mellows out the entire flavor. Canned pears in syrupy juices run down the sides. Finish is well bittered and long lasting. Yeasty remnants linger on for ages.

Soft and refreshing mouthfeel, nice and solid carbonation. Sits at about a medium body; a hearty Hefe.

Nice taste, interesting appearance. Solid by all means, and thus, an easy to enjoy Hefe.

Appearance: clody golden body and creamy bright white cap. Good retention. Excellent lacing.
Small: Bready sweet with notes of clove and bananas.
Taste: Taste follows aroma, as usual. Limited phenolics of bubblegum and clove. Sweetish. Lots of wheat malt. Mild balancing bitterness. Slightly grassy and floral hops. Finishes with a very slight hint of sulphur and grassy hops amidst candyish sweetness.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied and quite crisp with a standard elevated carbonation for weizen.
Drinkability: Quite nice. More flavor than quite a few. Very nicely done.

Pours a hazy golden orange/ yellow color, with a huge white head that hangs around. Smells of sweet wheat and citrus. The citrus wheat taste in this beer isn't like any other I've had before. It's so much smooth and more natural tasting. Definitely some orange and maybe some peach flavors. One of the smoothest beers I've ever had as well. The texture is like cream. It goes down so easy. Ill get this whenever I can. Try it!

Pours a very clouded gold straw with some white head. Nose is a strong mix of wheat, yeast, and fruit. A good touch of banana Laffy Taffy type fragrance on there. Okay. More than a touch. A lot. Flavor is fairly subdued and stronger with banana than I expected. As it warms it seems to be more appropriate. Feel is good. Nice level of carbonation that coats the tongue. As time went on I appreciated this one more and more. Pretty good actually.

Poured into mini-heffe glass at 08 Long Island Micro brew festival. The gent pouring told me Schwelmer has some assoication with the Brooklyn Brewery and Garrett Fitzgerald. Appeareance was cloudy yeasty yellow with a minor head to cap but good lacing throughout. Smell has very promimennt bananas and cloves. Taste is absolutely smashing! If you thought you smells bananas, just wait till your mouth touches this spectacular hefeewiezen. Mouthfeel is even better than the aroma or taste if you can believe it quafers. The carbonation level was balances perfectly to add some tang even with the heavy sweetness and creamyness of the bananas. This is one of the best beers beyond Austria's Edele Weiss. My new top 5 Hefe's.

After returning from the BADE-BADEN area of germany I had a hankering or more of a loss of true German Hefe Weiss Bier. Alas I found it in the Scwelmer Braueri
1. Great Foamy White Head 3 fingers thick.
2. That classic Banana, Clove Sweet smell.
3. And the taste brought me back to the little town of Guglingen where most of my german relatives live.

I can't wait to go and find another 4-pack. On that note too bad they only come in 4-packs Unless someone can find me a case of theses rare beauties.

Nifty .5 liter that is going in to my bottles for home brewing and GASP! I get BEER in the deal too!

Pours a very heavily clouded golden brew with a strong white head.

Smell is just as it should be lots of bubblegum, banana and clove scents. Fairly sweet smelling.

Taste is mild sweetness and tartness with a nice melded Hefe flavor. This is a Hefe Weizen that mixes ALL the standard flavors from the style without letting anyone of them dominate. Every taste is a bit different. Banana, clove, bubblegum, orange circus peanut, and even faint Band-Aid this brew shows off all the possible flavors. VERY complex for a Hefe Weizen.

Mouthfeel is good and full, even bready.

Exceedingly PLEASANT experience to drink. Mild enough to convert you non-beer geeks, yet complex enough to hold the attention of a Hefe Weizen connoisseur. I can recommend this brew, not super expensive either $2.50 for the .5 liter bottle.

I went out to buy wine for my wife at a local beer and wine store when a bottle of Schwelmer Weizen caught my eyes. I confess that I only bought it because of the swing top (I wanted the bottle since I brew my own beer) and that I found a very nice beer to add to my favorite list.

A: very nice looking, naturally cloudy, beer with a whitish/opaque yellow color that looked like a lava lamp when looking through the glass against the light. Huge creamy head that stayed throughout the pleasant experience.

S: Strong sweet (fruity/clovy) scent with some citric aspects.

T: Fresh sweet malt with light flowery hop that made it taste just right. Smooth and pleasent aftertaste.

M: Medium bodied. deliciously creamy and a bit tart. Not much carbonation.

D: refreshing that went down like it was nothing. I was regretful that I didn't purchase at least another bottle to keep it going.

tried this beer on a whim, excellent taste and drinkability, very nice body with a delicate fruity flavour, not at all heavy, it did not leave the normal full almost bloated feeling from similar beers, balanced very well with steak and potato did not overpower the flavor of meal. overall a very good beer/
