Got this at the De Molen shop in Bodegraven. My mate Doopie said this was the best thing since sliced bread, so I had to give it a try.
From a bottle into a snifter
APPEARANCE: Pours a small, medium looking, off-white head with decent retention. A clear burnt umber in color with no carbonation evident. Head slowly fades to a wisp and ring, but only a ring remains leaving some dots of lacing down the glass.
SMELL: Pine, soapy notes, pineapple with some honeydew melon. Bold enough and hoppy, with some light caramel underneath.
TASTE: Lots of melon with caramel and malty sweetness up front, then a good dose of pine at the swallow. Bold and lingering finish of sweet melon, pine, grapefruit, some bitter hops and yeasty spicy notes. Tasty enough.
PALATE: Thinner body, lighter, with medium levels of carbonation. A bit foamy on the palate, goes down fine and finishes dry. A bit too foamy, which gets in the way a bit.
OVERALL: A decent DIPA for sure, but nothing worth writing home about. The thinner and somewhat foamy feel keeps this from reaching the heights it aspires to as well. Something nice to drink on a hot summer's day for sure though, especially if you like a bit of malt sweetness to balance the hop show. Cheers!
