Notes/Commercial Description:
The first beer to come out of our vats, back in 1985, making it the classic beer of Brouwerij ‘t IJ. It is a ‘tripel’, the category reserved for the stronger, blonde beers in Belgian tradition. Zatte more than lives up to expectations in this respect. It is a full-bodied, golden beer with a scent of fresh fruit mingled here and there with a hint of grain. The flavour is slightly sweet, ending with a fine, dry aftertaste. A delicious beer that can be enjoyed in all seasons.

Not sure how to read the Flemish, but first mark is on 3 and last 06, maybe March, 06.
Lightly chilled and poured in to a watou goblet. One finger of pure white head retention is mild. Body is a slightly musty orange amber. Reminiscent of copper deposits on the rocks of mounts or in murky red golden rivers. Grows to an almost light peach huge toward the bottle of the glass. ( I over poured so little yeasties are hanging around the bottom. Smells is very aromatic with strong hints of ginger bread, maybe nut meg, poached sour apple, sembe, and hints of earthy sour funk, on the other hand hops are subtle. Taste is on the drier side with little hints of sourness, bitterness is minimal, rather quaffable, but not completely wowing. Interesting tripel, but not my favorite I've heard other people say they liked it better on tap that would be quite interesting. Decent carbonation I'd like to try it with food hop aroma is subtle bitterness is minimal.

330 ml. bottle. Hazy orange-amber colour, with a small creamy head that leaves a big lace after fading. Smell of tropical fruits, lemon, honey floral aroma. Full body and carbonation, taste of hops, honey, tropical fruits, lemon. Dry and bitter aftertaste.

Bottle at Cafe de Koe & on tap at t'IJ, Amsterdam.

Dark blonde with lacey white sheets.
Apple, brown bread, a touch of lemon balm and/or zingy yeast on the nose.
Rock candy, golden plum, lots of honey, a lemony hit and a cut grass hops.
Ginger bread cookie finish and tight tingly linger.
Crisp, medium side of light, round.

The bottle was a bit brown and muddy, smelled almost like a dubbel, and was missing white pepper and that snappiness you get from a good tripel.
On draft at the brewery it was much paler with a brighter nose, smooth, but still short on citrus and hops.

Overall, a round, sweet tripel, light on the yeasty flavors and edge, but balanced and drinkable.

On-tap at Frenzi, Amsterdam, Netherlands

A: The beer is clear yellow in color and has no visible carbonation. It poured with a finger high white head that died down, leaving a thin film on the surface and a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: The aroma is quite fruity and has apples and bananas along with hints of yeast and spices.
T: The taste is similar to the smell and also has some additional flavors of candi sugars.
M: It feels medium-bodied and a little dry on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer has some complexity and is enjoyable to sip. The alcohol is relatively well hidden from the taste.
