I can't really underrank the place because this is just simply a proeflokaal, so it's not really meant for you to have a blooming social experience.
I rode my bike after exiting In de Wildeman and stopping for lunch at Burger King (gotta spare some budget there) over in front of the Centraal Station and thereon it was a pretty easy ride. you first spot the mill and get there quite easily to encounter a big "bierbrouwerij 't IJ" sign. the proeflokaal is just behind the mill.
Stepping in, this place doesn't try to be anything else that what it actually is: the back room of a brewery. swivel doors would just guide you to the fermentation tanks, which you can spot through the egg-shaped windows.
Three brits sitting at one end of the bar, one dutch at the other and the bartender which seemed to have a bit of a hippie air. I sat on the tables- empty at this time, and ordered progressively through their selection of available IJbrews- Natte, Zatte, Columbus, Scharrel and Struis. the place begun to get crowded and it was a further more pleasant environment.
The place is notably cheap- most beers are around 1.90euro and don't go above 2.20euro. you can also get a bit of paraphernalia but then you'd really have to be a hardcore IJfan. enjoyable experience, but I guess there's only so much to expect from it.

Located next to the Gooyer windmill, this is one of the most picturesque breweries I have visited! They have been open since 1985, in a building that used to be a municipal bath house, and have been crafting beer there ever since. The bar is a newer addition and they had 6 beers on tap when we visited. They are one of the only breweries we saw in Belgium and the Netherlands that actually offer a sampler, so we were able to try all the beers amongst our group. The walls of the tasting room are old and cracked white tiles from its bath house days and are lined with dusty and faded beer bottles. My Minnesota radar was on and I spotted a Fitgers sticker on one of the doors. Most of the beers were Belgian style, like a tripel, dubbel, and wit, but had a house flavor that didn't quite fit those categories.
The tripel and wit were a bit rough on the finish...perhaps too much coriander or other spices? Their Struiss barleywine was fantastic though, dripping with dark fruit, sugar, yeastiness and complexity. The busy family style bench and table set up in the room encouraged talking to neighbors and we ended up discussing beer with Canadian ex-pats and several locals. A very fun place to visit and worth the trip out there.

this place is awesome! do yourself a favor and get a sampler and grab a seat outside! they had a good selection of beer and my personal favorite was the IPA. the atmosphere was great they had big outdoor picnic tables, so you were able to sit with other people and enjoy beer. but one of my personal favorite feature of this brewery was it was located right beside a windmill. if you've ever been to Amsterdam you know everything is only a stone throw away, so with that being said hit this place up

Damn this building is cool. On the inside the selection is pretty typical of a brewery. Slightly disappointing there isn’t anything more special on draft than what they bottle and distribute, because everything we tried was really great. There is an enormous beer garden out front. Lots of people on beer tour mixed with lots of locals enjoying an afternoon brew.

very cool setting in amsterdam, on a nice day the patio is very cool where you can sit under some trees and sip their beers and enjoy some quality people watching. beer isn't amazing, but a fun hour or 2 hanging out at a great spot. definitely recommend to folks visiting amsterdam...easy tram ride from city center.
