A friend of mine recommended this place as a good meeting spot before going to the PalaceTheater, which coincedentally is less the 50 meters away.
I met up with some friends there, and I checked in with the bouncer as to what the drill was. He informed me no food outside on the night that they have shows at the Palace, and no glass outside ever.
Famished & parched we bellied up to the bar for a drink and a menu. They had several offerings for happy hour, most of which were BMC, but they did have Yeungling on tap, so I couldn't turn that down.
With drink in hand we asked to see menus and were politely informed that you could only order food in the dining area...okay, no sweat so we got a table and sat down.
What an eclectic mix of folks here, everything from t-shirts and ripped jeans to crisp white collars.

The beer selection here was okay. They had about 30 different beers on tap (mostly BMC) . They did have Sierra Nevada, and Pilsner Urquell on tap which about as obscure as it got. There was something for everyone in our party. The bottle selection included about 30 different bottles, mostly BMC and some nice english offerings.

The food was good. It arrived quickly, and was hot (thermally speaking). Service was great our waitress was friendly, attentive, and patient with us.
All in all a good place to go before a show, with good pub food, and an okay beer selection.
I'd make this a regular stop before hitting a show at the Palace anytime.

Stopped here with the family on a Thursday night. Pretty quiet at 8PM. We had a pub grub meal that was definiately better than average. Pretty good shepherd's pie actually, veggie burgers and grill cheese all OK with so-so fries according to my daughter. I had a pint of Fat Angel that seemed fine. Service was very friendly from the waitress, I did not check out the bar itself other than to view about 25+ taps. The menu listed some flavors that were not apparent at the taps but they had a good selection including Boddingtons, Brooklyn Brown, Harpoon IPA, Magic Hat #9 & Fat Angel, Sam's Cherry Wheat and Lager & Summer, Wachusetts Blueberry, Yuengling Lager, Frankishaner Hefe, Smithwick's, Guinness Stout, Harp Lager, and a few other goodies as well as a bunch of common majors. The bottle selection, though vast, did not appear to be full of many happy surprises, not much in micros there but solid selections none-the-less. I liked the atmosphere but it is definitely a pub/bar more than a restaurant. If you like an old fashioned tavern feel then you will be right at home, as I was. Lots of old pictures, magazine adds and other bric-a-brac depicting quirky nostalgia in beer, cars, sports, etc. Tin ceiling and retro fixtures and old wood highlights throughout. They were setting up for a band to play outside under tents which is apparently a weekly deal on Thursdays this time of year. Everyone seemed pleasant here. It is close to the on/off from I-787, near the Pumping Station. Recommended for casual dining and relaxed drinking.

Great place. The obvious political crowd. A definate down home type of place. A decent amount of beers for a pub that caters to the nightly transition of Albany. My bigest challenge with the pub was the quality of one of my beers. I knew I should of stuck to the common beers (Guinness, Yuengling, etc.) of the area. I thought the Sam Adams would be okay, but it was super warm and flat. Learning from my experience I switched to Yuengling and was rewarded. The bartender was great. Very personable and accomodating to the group I was with.

Brian (Sponberg) did the night time review - Greg & I will do the lunchtime review! 30+ taps, mostly imports & micros. Plus a very nice assortment of bottles. Bar service was great; the bartender offered us a trial taste of everything we asked about. Food is the normal bar/restaurant offering but the seafood bisque I had this past visit was delicious! Prices are on the slightly high size but that's to be expected in this downtown locale. 50/50 mix of starchy suits and blue collars at lunchtime - there are a lot of parking garages going up in the area.
This place is on our once in a while list - about once every 3-5 months.
