a hazy light yellowy orange pour with 2 fingers of head which dissipated quickly. smells of wheat bread, subtle lemon pledge scent, feet.. this may sound off putting to some, but it's just what i want in this style. oh wow that is tart and sour! YES! this is exactly what i was waiting for.. definitely a bready base beer, TONS of lactobacillus sourness, subtle citrusy lemon flavor but nothing too "fruity" just an overpowering ton of salty sourness! light in body, high carbonation, and sour like lemonade - this beer is the most refreshing thing on earth, and at 3% abv it cannot be any more perfect as a session drink.
there's a short story to the 1st time i had this beer. heat wave, 2013 - i take a train from nj to nyc early in the morning. i make my rounds to the bottle shops in manhattan and decide to walk all the way from the lower east side (over the williamsburg bridge) to torst bar in greeenpoint brooklyn. i am COVERED in sweat and see this (the only berliner weisse) on the menu. i think, well - not my favorite style, but it's hot and need something to quench my thirst to get on to the heavier beers. the pour this out of their magical draught system, i take my first sip and it feels like all the sweat just froze dry immediately.
fast forward to tonight (2:30am on a september saturday night), i pop open a bottle i ended up ordering online - and every single thing i remembered from this beer came back immediately. absolutely my favorite in a style i was not really a fan of - this made me fall in love.
