Pours a cloudy yellow color with a white head. Lightly funky on the nose. Popcorn, grass, lactobacillus, and some lemon. A bit of lemon peel, wheat bread, and hints of sweet malt. The flavor is quite crisp, dry, and tart. Lots of lactic acidity, lemon, and lemon peel. Some straw, a touch of unripe strawberry, grass, and a light malt sweetness with a definite wheat and popcorn character.

Appearance - This is a light and hazy straw colored beer with a head that poured big then dissipated quickly. It's exactly how it should look.

Smell - The wheat is very light but noticeable and the sourness is mild at the nose. It has the beauty of a lemon without the acid. Very nice.

Taste - The sourness is a bit bigger at the taste but still not overly sharp. The wheat again is very light.

Mouthfeel - This is of course a light-bodied bier with a comfortable tartness. The carbonation is some of the most delicate found in a bottle.

Drinkability - I refuse to drink BWs with a flavoring syrup, dash of liquor, or a straw (especially a straw as it destroys the wonderful carbonation). Maybe it's because my family is Lebanese and I enjoy a pleasing, sour flavor, but I really enjoyed this bier as is.

A: Pours a light yellow like a traditional lager. One knuckle head that dissipates quickly.
S: Citrus, orange (almost juice like), sour tart smell but not like a wild/ Lambic.
T: Like stale beer/water, not impressed.
M: sour kicks in, not too sours but enough to add some flavor, doesn't taste like much except for lemon and wheat.
O:Average, B quality, nothing special but glad to compare it to the style.

The beer pours a cloudy pale yellow color with a white head. The aroma is heavy on the wheat with not too much else. I don't get any tartness or sourness in the aroma.

The flavor is wheat, sour apples and lemons. I get a little bit of tartness, but it is quite minimal.

Thin mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Appearance: Light yellow straw color, slight cloudiness. Thin head, dissipated in less than 5 minutes.
Smell: Slight wheat smell, no real citrus note to speak of.
Taste: Soft wheat, slight sourness, mild acidity. Citrus comes through in taste (lemony).
Mouthfeel: Also thin, clean. Nice, but not fantastic.
Drinkability: Refreshing, this would be great on a hot day. Not too sour.
I have had other Berliners and this one is pretty true to form. Overall, a delicious sour-ed slightly wheaty beer.

Bottle (2012?)

The Bruery Provisions
Orange, CA

Clear yellow with a small (for the style) bone-white head. This doesn't leave much stick down the glass. Average.

The nose is dominated by wheat, a bit of lemon, and some mild acidic sourness.

The flavor too has more pronounced wheat character than I've experienced in any other beer. There's a mild lemon, mild grape, and mild acidic sourness as well. Drinkable.

Light to medium bodied with moderate to high carbonation. Appropriate.

Decent enough, and incredibly drinkable, though the wheat flavors dominate and I was wishing for more lemon/apple/sour flavors. Simple.

Yellow pour, ample haze, clean white head about 3/4" deep, looks good. Minor tart and sour wheat notes in the aroma, not huge, but present.

Taste, light body as it should be, good tartness, tongue smacking. Lemon is really dominating in terms of leading the flavor profile. Barely anything else discernable about it, malt, hops not really anything there to describe, other than the lack of it not being there, which is fine, its still a good tasting berlinner, but at its price ($6 a bottle), it is more expensive than some of the better berlinners you can get your hands on.

Its pretty dry, very clean, it is enjoyable as long as you don't think about how much you paid for it. A great option on a hot day and limitless wallet.

This beer is a not a great berliner in my opinion. The acidic tartness is present but it is toned down to the point where much of the wheat beer flavor is present and you can almost taste the hops. This makes it taste closer to a lager than a wheat. Overall this is a decent beer, looks really pretty, taste isn't bad by any means but I prefer a stronger sour taste. Still one of my favorite beer styles on a day like today.

On-tap at the Porter in Atlanta.

Pours a very hazy lemon-yellow color with a one-finger white head. The head dissipates quickly into a wispy layer on top leaving light lacing.

Smells of light malts with hints of wheat and larger amounts of lightly tart citrus - lemon with mild amounts of orange. Also present are small amounts of earthy hops.

Tastes similar to how it smells. Crisp light malt flavors kick things off and are joined quickly by mildly tart light citrus. Midway through the sip a slight bitterness comes into play with earthy undertones, carrying through to a crisp ending.

Mouthfeel is good. It's got a light thickness with active carbonation.

Drinkability is very good. I finished my glass quickly and could easily have a few more.

Overall this is a nice middle-of-the-road berlinerweiss - nothing stands out as exceptional but it's something I could have quite a few of, especially in warmer weather. Worth a shot.

Appearance: pale straw color with white head that quickly dissipates with some lacing.

Smell: tart and grainy

Taste: faint grainyness, slighty fruitynes, tart ( thought less than anticipated ). Finish is very dry

Mouthfeel: very light in body as expected with a 3 abv berry. The light body adds to the refreshing quality.

Drinkability: very drinkable. Could drink quite a few in one sitting, and with the low alcohol, not get in too deep.

Overall: very refereshing beer, great for a summer afternoon. That being said I still enjoyed the beer even thought its in the teens outside. Will drink the beer again.

Another beer I only got to taste thanks to Bobby; last night at The Attic.

A very pale yellow with moderate hazing, it's what I expect for the style. The head seems stingy at first but develops a bit, almost to one finger. A bit of spotty lacing with some legs leave some off-white evidence behind.
This beer smells like a lemon. I get a bit of malts behind it with some light wheat-like notes.
The same goes for the flavor. It's pretty good, and it's the sourness I expect, but its flaw is being one-dimensional, as the lemon dominates and the sourness is almost the only aspect here.
Crisp and light with a bit of a creamy flow, the feel is good, and refreshing at that.

In a snifter from a twelve ounce bottle.

A- starts with a finger-thick, fluffy, pale white foam and streaks of lace. A pale golden body with energetic carbonation shows, although this beer has a hazy quality. The head persists well and leaves a layer of lace. 4.25

S- sour, wheaty, and malty, maybe some diacetyl, and an aroma of white wine. That's an interesting turn. 3.75

T- I still get the white wine, maybe white grape juice, flavor, with some tart berry flavor and a lemony finish. There's a strong wheat quality that runs along the palate and gives the brew an earthy flavor. 3.75

M- it's plenty tart, wine-like and semi-dry on the finish. It makes the mouth pucker a bit from the acidity. 3.75

O- I enjoyed this but found some of the flavors and sensations to be slightly off. I have found many berliner weisses lately that surpass this, so the competition is getting stiffer.

Pours out of the uniquely shaped 11.2oz bottle a very very light color. Kind of a soft and nearly witbierish white/very pale yellow with a nice slight haze and a fizzy white head that reduces fairly quickly to a ring around the glass with some light skim and leaves minimal lacing.

The nose has quite a grain punch, with some slight dirty wheat/corn like notes. Not alot of lacto in the nose, but i think that will change with first sip. Some apple skin is also apparent. Slight almost white pepper as well.

Hmmm. An interesting take on the style, but to be honest, one i am not terribly fond of. The wheat profile is sort of muddy and unwieldy and gives and almost adjunct like grain flavor to the mix that is just strong enough that you can't quite get past it without mention. That being said, aside from that it fits the style quite well. Very soft on the palate, with a beautifully subtle lactic tartness. Nice and mild, slick in the throat, and aftertaste lingers with green apple notes and tartness.

Mouthfeel is dead on for the style, perfectly soft, beautifully light, and a fantastic subtle tartness.

Drinkability would get top marks here if not for the slight issues i have with the flavor. If there wasn't such an odd almost adjunct like flavor in here, i could literally drink about twenty of these bastards, as they sit at the traditional abv range of 3%

Overall a very well made berliner weisse. If not for mild flaws in the taste, this one would be top notch. Very traditionally made, and accurately so. The subtle tartness and mouthfeel are fantastic. This one really could be a very amazing beer if they can just get that damn wierd corny taste out of the middle. A good beer, but I'll grab 1809 over this one nearly every time.

Bottled 9/13/2012

Poured into a glass chalice.

It pours a murky, yellow-brown color - kind of like straw. There's one finger's worth of head and it disappears within seconds. No retention and no lacing whatsoever. There's citrus on the nose with some yeasty bread as well, but not much going on. The first thing that hits me is the carbonation which is very aggressive. Then the tartness hits me...it's very tart and the depth of flavour isn't quite there to balance it out or back it up. I find that i'm puckering more than i'm savoring it. There's some lemon and orange going on and overall, it's a refreshing berliner, but that's about all it has going for it. It's a one-trick pony and far from special.

Cloudy pale yellow with almost no head. Minimal lacing, settled to a ring.
Lemonade.
Tart, mostly lemon character with a pleasant malt finish.
Well carbonated but a tad thin.
Enjoyed with Velveeta Mac and Cheese for some reason, Worked well. A good beer that I would like to enjoy again. A good introduction to the style.

A huge head of bright white foam rises up as you pour it. Beneath, a hazy whitish-gold body releases delicate pin-point bubbles. The nose is a touch grainy, wheatish, yeasty, and even subtly sweet. It's subdued, as is the flavor. Again, it's got some grainy malt and yeast character, but it's also veiled in a thin tartness. It's far from mouth-puckering, and overall this is a very restrained version of the style. That, however, leaves it imminently drinkable and refreshing. With its low alcohol content and tartness it's almost like a lemon seltzer. Perfect for summer!

11.2oz bottle pours a pale and cloudy whitish yellow color with a thin fizzy white head The aroma is a bit sour with wheat and yeast and just a hint of citrus. The taste like the aroma is a bit tart with some wheat and yeast flavors. The mouthfeel is pretty light and thin with a moderate amount of carbonation. Overall, this is a decent brew that is worth a try. It is nothing special, but would be nice and refreshing and would be a pretty nice session brew on a hot day.
