A- Poured from a bottle into a tulip glass. Very soapy white head that disappeared quickly. Tons of bubbles. Color reminds me of pineapple juice.

S- Lemons hit my nose first. I've only tried a few sours but this smells similar to what I've tried.

T- Holy sour beer batman!! I've never had a beer cause this reaction before. Last time my mouth puckered like this was from an atomic warhead candy. Very tart lemony taste. Crisp and refreshing. Another reviewer labeled it as a substitute for Lemonade. I concur

M- Very carbonated. No alcohol feel at only 3%, but the tartness attacks the tongue.

O- This beer is intense. A little overwhelming at first, but the more you get into it, the better it gets. Definitely not a session beer, but will be nice to pick up from time to time. I'll be back for more.

This Berliner Weisse is a golden-hazy color with a very light-bubbly head. The head dissipated quickly to one side of the glass creating a boomeranged shaped head; After five minutes the head was gone altogether. One of the beer's most noticable qualities is its extreme carbonation. Looking down on the surface of the beer one can see carbon dioxide bubbles penetrating the surface and popping.
The aroma of the Brettanomyces Lambicus contains both lemon and lime tartness. Most likely due to the addition of Brettanomyces, a wild yeast, a musty quality adds complexity to the aroma.
The first sip has an initial wave of lemon tartness that is amazingly sour. Once this sourness recedes, an earthiness (grass or straw) enters into the taste profile. Within this second taste, the Brettanomyces rears its funkiness balancing the finish nicely.
The initial level of carbonation was one of the highest levels that I have observed, and it did not disappoint. The bubbles constantly pricked my tongue all over. The body was light and very refreshing.
This a delicious sour wheat beer. Given the intensity of the carbonation some people may be put off, but to pack that much flavor into a beer with 3%ABV is truly the work of an skilled brewmaster. (Thanks, Matthias! Keep sending your Leipzig Sour Beers to the United States and they will find their way into my glass.)

Pours pale yellow with a big foamy white head at first. I dumped in the sediment and it went cloudy and looked like grapefruit juice. No lace, no head retention.

The brett sour funk is there, but there was something else too that I didn't like. Tart notes are fine, but something outside of that and grain.

Big brett sour notes up front. Citric acid, maybe a touch of pineapple juice, but really for the acidity. Light bitterness. Brew is light and carbonated and the flavors come and go. Some bitter husk and maybe some light malt. Sour, and a touch bitter in finish.

A good one overall. Not my favorite for the style, but a very nice find.

Enjoyed on tap at the Armsby Abbey.

A - Poured into a tulip a clear straw hue with a thin white head that leaves nice halo/clouding.

S - Quite funky with definate Brettanomyces Lambicus. Past the funk there is some very nice bready/yeast/wheat qualities.

T - The delicious funk upfront followed by the yeast and bready malts. Nice lemons and light honey, with nice musty bread. Really sour upfront with berliner weiss immediately following.

M - Very light and crisp. Super sour upfront with a nice wheat finish.

O - This was a very interesting beer. Really enjoyed the initial intense sourness followed by the normal wheat qualities. Really enjoyable beer.

Huge pure white head tops a pale yellow, clear beer, and slowly recedes to a lively cap.

My oh my, plenty of hormonal and barnyard aroma to this baby, like rotted after-sex sheets mixed with under a hot day's, hard ride saddle. Truly awful in a good way.

Woaahh, nelly, what a shit ton of crazy flavor going on here. The brett has funked up this beer, with a hint of lacto/aceto in there as well, just enough to give it a puckery counterpoint. Heavily complex layers of funkitude, righteously cramming pitons of interesting flavors into mount palate. Won't try to catalog what they resemble, think of all the flavors of bretty brews you've tried, and double it. Wheat ghosts and some anemic sweet add just the right balance.

Very light in the mouth yet carrying boatloads of taste, heightened by ample carb., and a finish that is epic for this style.

The finest Berliner I have tried. Get it if you see it, you won't be disappointed.

One of my favorite beers. Mouth-puckeringly sour, refreshing as hell and packed full as flavor for something at 3%. The light fruit flavors combine well with the wheat and grass, creating a citrus and grain sour bomb. While more intense than your average Berliner Style Weiss, it's still the peak of the style. Phenomenal.

A sharply refreshing tart wheat based ale that breaks the mold of conventional Hefeweizens and continues the increasingly rare Berlinerweiss traditions.

As with most wheat beers, a hazy canary yellow hue allows for a diffused glow of light to penetrate. A dainty white glaze of foam provides the thinnest sheet across the surface of the beer and holds true form the first half of the session before succuming to the acidity of the beer. No real lace evident.

Musty grasses, lemon and lime, fresh straw and hay all give a glimpse into the oddly appealing scent. Very raw, rustic, and lightly bready and yeasty the beer carries a sweaty brine scent that reminds me of Belgian Lambics.

Flavors are much more intense with fruit tartness of lemons and limes, but with the earthy flavor of hay, straw, and grasses before turning lightly musty-dusty, before the salty brine and intense tartness sets in. The intensity of tartnss nearly locks the jaws on the first sip and causes a clean acidic sweat to bead on the cheeks. After the palate acclimates to the beer (two or three sips) the intensity calms and the beer reveals a very crisp, clean, and refreshing tartness as a good subsitute for lemonaids.

The sharp and acidic feel disguises an underpinning of lightly bready malt texture and timid creamy carbonaiton at the on set. But the finish of palate-stripping acidity, astringency of lime pith, and thin sourness makes this beer very clean and challenging to the mouthfeel.

A delicious sour German wheat beer with a plethera of complexity packed into a 3% beer. More of these beers are welcome in my glass!

I had this on-tap at Max's. Served in a taster glass.

Appearance: Pours a clear light yellow with a finger of fluffy white head and good retention.

Smell: Tart citrus, I'm picking up lime. The beer also smells a little bit sweet.

Taste: Extremely tart up front, like sucking on lemons. I wouldn't say there is much body, but given the abv there is an unbelievable amount of flavor. The finish is very sour.

Mouthfeel: Light body with very strong carbonation and a dry finish.

Overall: Very easy to drink. Tart and refreshing. I could literally drink this all night long.

On tap at Max's.

The beer pours a pale gold color with light lacing and modest head retention. The beer seems very well carbonated, with good action. Mouthfeel is quite wheaty, with a sour overlay. There's a hint of honey as well. The flavor profile is a real jolt and is incredibly tart. I get considerable lemon and lime, but also something of a yeasty, french champagne flavor. The amount of flavor this 3% abv. beer delivers... it's nothing short of astonishing. Mouthfeel is light and tittilating, with a fairly long, tart finish. Drinkability is exceptional of course.

Yummm... this is an absolute treat. Great stuff!

Had on tap at Max's Taphouse in Baltimore, and merged with review from Ebenezers.

Big creamy head, quite clear watery pale pilsner color. Nice lacing as the head slowly fades.

Nose light sour fruits, grape skin, light funk, light lemon, light straw like malts, and hint of creamy like malt profile.

The younger version at Max's had nice sour tart fruity, bit of funk but not a lot, sour dough, light lemon, crisp, little flemmy finish, nice tart light fruit, dry bready finish. The older one from Ebenezers added a ton of sourness, damn sour! Light lemony puckering tart fruit, light golden malts, hint of a vinous like tart fruit flavor. Very dry as well with a bready malt taste. Finish of bone dry, bready malt taste, long tart sour lemon finish. some acidity and very mouth watering.

Mouth is lighter bodied, mouth puckering and light decent carb. Bone dry.

Overall nice, super sour, move fruits and malts, great display of the lambicus wild yeast, without anything else really stepping in, but seems to lack much profile other than the sour fruit.

A: Pours a light, light opal ale with haze and soooo much foam. The egg white foam overtakes the globe after about five ounces of pour, and the beer takes about five minutes before this dies down and leaves a thick sheet of the same. No lace.

S: Smells a bit tart with some earthiness and makes me think of warm nights and refreshing beer gardens.

T: Light grain ale with a slight tartness, but this is overwhelmed by the brett. A bit of a mineral finish and some bland grains.

M: Light and nearly flat at this point with the thick soapy finish I associate with heavy Brett.

O: I dig it, but not more than the classic.

a: light yellow in hue with plenty of clouds swirling around in the glass along with the brew. thick, tight head with larger bubbles...strong carbonation to this.

s: funky sour notes. Smells acidic to a degree. like flare went off in front of your nose. earthy notes...leather, wet hay. hints of citrus and banana at the end help remind you this is a wheat beer.

t: not nearly as hard to adjust to as the nose. nice sour notes make you pucker. sour milk/cheese up front really help to make the sweet earthy malts pop along with the nice crisp wheat filled finish. Mild fruit flavors in here (grape, apple, banana). Most wheats I've had at such low abv really just come in tasting like water, but the brett in here really has a hold on the flavors of the beer and make the pop out in the finish.

m: tons of carb makes this crisp. finished dry. very light body...and I can't emphasize the level of carbonation in this, especially once it hits your mouth.

o: the aroma was a bit hard to get past and made me not want to drink this, but I'm glad I did. Nice use of brett and it works very well in this wheat beer. Flavors really pop in this one and the crispness of this drink from all of the carbonation help make it one of the more unique beers I've had in a while.

Poured from 11.2oz bottle into tall pilsner glass.
No bottled-on date.

Aroma: Wow--smells like I shoved my nose into a yeast starter. Bready yeast, which I don't mind. It quickly, however, switched to sulphury hard-boiled egg. Some sweet hay in there, followed by a brett character on the back end.

Appearance: 3/4 of the glass is white foam. This one foamed-up like a warm 2 liter bottle of sprite poured over ice. Active bubbles rise from the bottom of the glass. The body of the beer is a slightly hazy, almost irridescent, pale yellow. Foam eventually settles to a miringue-like rocky head.

Flavor: I felt as if I was going in for a bite of washed rind cheese for the first time... Curious to taste it, despite the repugnant flavor. An unmistakable Berliner-Weisse tartness, some earthy brett, followed by white grape skin. One hell of a refreshing beer!

Mouthfeel: One of the lightest bodies of any brew I've tried. Crisp CO2 scours the tongue. Puckering, mouthwatering tartness.

Overall: The beer let out a loud hiss when I popped the cap-- as if it were going to gush all over the place. No problems, though. Maybe I've just not acquired a nose for this one yet, but the aroma is the second favorite quality I enjoy in any beer (after taste, of course!). While this beer ROCKED in every other category, I just couldn't get into the smell of it. Aside from smell, this one has everything I could ask for in a Berliner Weisse.

On the expert recommendation of Cam at the Beer Shrine known as the Greenville Beer Exchange, I paid $6 for an 11.2 ounce bottle of 3% ABV Berliner Weisse.

A. Effervescent. Billowy white head. Pale and cloudy dull straw. No lace.

S. The noses leads here... big funkhouse sweat, wheat, lemon, lemon rind, sulfur, earth, musty and rotten. Brett fo' sho... shades of 3F or Cantillion funk. Some hay, and the sulfur is offensive and distracting initially... but boy is this unique. Bready and slightly putrid. Why do we do this again? Heh... but it is good. Actually reminds me of - don't laugh Craytonic - that undrinkable Peg's Ich Bin Ein Berliner Weisse that sat in your fridge a few times. But this is approachable.

Pro tip: Let it breath for a few minutes and the sulfur note will waft off, leaving you with a much better brew.

T. Extremely effervescent, once you get past that, a vista of bizarre and extreme flavors open before you. Nothing in here would be "good" alone, but together it makes sense in a challenging, Trout Mask Replica sort of way... you have a salty, doughy note that is all kinds of tangled up with the sour-lemon (lactic) yeast notes... that horrid sulfur (think rotten eggs or heavy mineral water) is here too, but manageable. The Brett yeast has really taken hold, and while it's not as funky as some may want, keep in mind this is a Berliner Weisse after all... frankly, this is just unique and gets points for that. The style is not, incidentally, blown away by the wild yeast, but if not complemented it at least holds its own. Fascinating.

M / D. Extremely bubbly and light bodied. Filling carbonation floods the mouth, making a small sip of this seem like more than it was. The flavors linger long - a salty, dingy lemon chew. Finishes very dry and "scrubbing bubbles" the palate.

I'm actually surprised this beer isn't more polarizing than it (apparently) is. Brettanomyces Lambicus is one of the more challenging beers I've had in a long time; I would have spit this out a few years ago. But understanding the base style, the yeast addition, and why this smells and tastes the way it does helps greatly. A fascinating creation, this makes me want to try everything else from Gosebrauerei Bayerischer.

If this thing toned down the rather gross sulfur notes, it would score very highly indeed. If the brewers are reading this, hire Dr. Fritz Bream to fix it. It's still good, and if you fancy a challenge, or like Berliner Weisse, you should try this.

A - Cloudy straw-yellow with a huge foamy white head that has surprisingly good retention, and recedes to a thick cap. Really nice!
S - Amazing aromas of green apple, lemon juice, crisp wheat, and hay with a nice tartness and a bit of earthy "funk". Phenomenal.
T - Very crisp flavors of green apple, lemon juice, wheat, and funky Brett. There's a really nice earthy, "minerally" quality that lingers on the palate for some time.
M - Light-bodied with a thin mouth-feel and incredibly sharp carbonation. Carbonation may be a touch high, it really scrubs the tongue and prevents some of the flavor from getting through. Still, very crisp and refreshing.
O - An amazingly complex take on one of my favorite oddball styles, it's ridiculous how much flavor is coaxed out of a 3% ABV beer!

Thanks to Sean for this... Light cloudy gold, nice head that forms quickly and stays a while, nice lacing... A light sourness with some wheat and a hint of grape skins... Taste is light sour, yummy totally drinkable... Nice moutfeel and super easy to drink... I would love to have this on a hot day

pours a sparking hazy light golden color with a big three finger head of white that clears the top of the glass and settles down lightly to a thin coating along the top. lots of carbonation bubbling up throughout the session.

aroma is light sour and acidic tartness. green apples with a mix of light hay and sour grapes. simply remarkable. as it warms the crisp and clean sour flavor really starts to come through quite nicely as the light nature of it really becomes apparent as you take the first sip. remarkable that this much flavor is coming through. crisp, clean, refreshing and light the nature of this throws me for a loop, as if it simply could not get any better. crisp green apples dominate the flavor with a light grassy note coming in the finish along with an amazing dryness.

Poured from an 11.2oz bottle into a St. Feuillien goblet.

A: Pours a perfectly clear pale gold with five fingers of finely bubbled, bright white foam that towered over the rim of the glass. I was suprised at how quickly it melted down to a thin and creamy skim that left no lace. Carbonation was active. After the head calmed down, I poured the rest of the bottle with all of the sediment into my glass. This turned the color and clarity to something I can only describe as Cream Soda Dum Dum Sucker.

S: Interesting, to say the least. I was expecting a skanky/cheesy bomb, but was treated to lightly fruity yeast, lemony hops, and a bit of sourdough bread crust. The second pour got all the sediment and in turn a hint of sulfur.

T: Tastes exactly as it smells. The added sediment brought just a hint of sulfur which actually died down rather quickly.

M: Weissbier fullness with its' Berliner cousins' traditional crispness. Only a tiny bit of tartness.

O: Very refreshing. I would've liked a bit more tart/sour, but this was quite enjoyable.

Light yellow with a a dense, off-white head with great retention, this looks good. The nose is super stinky and farty, mildly shitty. With time, this is fruity, tart and mildly vinous and very lactic. Still, this is extremely sulfury. The palate opens with a clean, lactic sourness, tart and low level of funk. Sulfur is moderate on the palate, lingering on the finish. Drying on the finish with a high level of carbonation, this is decent.
