Best after 21/4/14

It is pale yellow in color and very hazy. Chunks of yeast are floating in suspension. It looks like the 20 year old Busch that I poured a couple months ago. It has a couple of inches of off-white head that settled to a thin veil just covering the top of the beer.

It has a sweet grain smell along with some floral aromas.

This taste is surprisingly good. It tastes like sweet bread with hints of honey.

Prickly carbonation dances across my tongue for a dry, clean finish.

It's been a few years since I have had this beer. It is a pretty darn good English pale ale.

So here I am, eating some 'roo and watching some cricket, and decide to try this bad boy. Smells better than it tastes, but still a very tasty beer. Definitely will drink again.

375 ml bottle into pint glass, best after 8/22/2013. Pours lightly hazy/cloudy golden straw color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of lemon, pear, apple, cracker, bread, herbal, grass, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of pale malt, earthy hops, and yeast ester notes; with solid strength. Taste lemon, pear, apple, cracker, lightly toasted bread, herbal, grass, light pepper, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Light earthy herbal bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon, pear, apple, cracker, lightly toasted bread, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a short bit. Good balance and robustness of pale malt, earthy hops, and yeast ester flavors; with a good malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, crisp, and slightly creamy/bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with zero warming present after the finish as expected of 4.5%. Overall this is a very solid English pale ale style. All around good balance and robustness of pale malt, earthy hops, and yeast ester flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.

Light fruit in the aroma while appearance is gold-yellow and lightly sedimented. The flavor is of citrus and has a background of grain/bread.

Appearance - Light slightly hazy amber in colour with a fizzy foam head that dies almost instantly to a heavy lace cover. Mild fizzy CO2 bubbles in the glass throughout.

Smell - Light floral tones and light malty sweetness and light hops. The overall aroma is of sweet water and biscuit.

Taste - Lightly burnt and malty flavour of light caramel biscuit with some lightly bitter hop nip in the follow through that makes this very well balanced and tasty.

MF - Pretty good body to this one, it has a fizzy tingle as you drink from all that CO2. There is also a light linger but it is long lived.

Overall - Well balanced in the flavour but off style in some of the categories having said that it is still very drinkable and very tasty.

Upfront there is a light to moderate flavor of pale and grainy malts with minimal amounts of sweetness. That is followed by light flavors of light fruit/spicy yeast and just a light amount of floral hops. A light amount of bitterness is present in the finish and fades away fairly quickly.

A: Pours a hazy straw yellow in color with moderate to heavy amounts of active visible carbonation rising from the bottom of the glass, a light amount of fine light colored particles in suspension, and a hint of lemon yellow highlights. The beer has a half finger tall foamy off-white head that reduces to a large patch of thick film covering the majority of the surface of the beer with a medium thick ring at the edges of the glass. Light to moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Light aromas of pale and grainy malts with a light aroma of floral hops. Very light aromas of light fruit/spicy yeast.

T: Upfront there is a light to moderate flavor of pale and grainy malts with minimal amounts of sweetness. That is followed by light flavors of light fruit/spicy yeast and just a light amount of floral hops. A light amount of bitterness is present in the finish and fades away fairly quickly.

M: Just slightly heavier than light bodied with moderate to heavy amounts of carbonation.

O: Light and refreshing, somewhat thirst quenching - this would be a good sessionable beer for a hot summer day. Easy to drink.

Format: a brown 375mL bottle with the standard Coopers macro label.

Appearance: pours out a cloudy straw yellow with visible carbonation against the floating sediment. A finger of off-white head lingers for quite a time - patchy lacing down the glass.

Aroma: aromas of pale malts, some citrus and grass hops with those classic Coopers yeasts over the top.

Taste: now there's a very familiar taste. Sharp citrus and grass hops with some earth, those pale malts and yeast.

Aftertaste: the flavours all hang around for some time, with the sharp earth and the yeasts taking the fore.

Mouth feel: medium in feel with a moderate to higher carbonation. A thick feel due to the sediment in the beer.

Overall: this is definitely Coopers most popular beer and their best seller. Although they have better beers such as Best Extra Stout and Extra Strong Vintage Ale, this is the one that they are best known for. Decent flavours across the palate, and now for a good price at AU44 a case (though I think they usually retail closer to $50).
