Pitch black stout that is very peculiar. The scent is light but with hints of roasted malt and coffee. The taste differs not overly much except that it's very sweet for being a dry (?) stout. I can find coffee and roasted malt in the taste but with a little licorice and soap.

A very sweet and sour stout that I surely will drink again.

Solid drop, although that's to be expected from the Coopers Family. Have spent many a day drinking their pale and sparkling ale and somehow had never sampled their stout. From a 750ml longneck into a pint glass. Best after 20 April 2014. A: Looks a solid black with a nice dark coffee head. S: Smells a nice bitter chocolate, with a little vanilla and coffee too. T: like it smells...chocolate, fudge and some coffee bitterness. Overall a solid stout that id be happy to drink any day. Not a complex example of the style, but a great go-to for a daily drop...keep a couple, or a case, in the fridge and you've got guaranteed satisfaction if you're yearning for something dark. Certainly give it a go.

A: Large three finger tan head with an aggressive pour. The head dissolves to a film and leaves pretty nice lacing. Body is opaque black.

S: Nice chocolate. Then it has that bitterness that I always associate with export stouts. There is some coffee roast in there as well with a little bit of dark fruit.

T: Very similar to the nose. Bitter export stout taste with some dark roast. Nice dark chocolate on the swallow.

MF: Very nice. It is slightly thicker than a normal export stout and I think that helps. It is a little creamy. Medium.

O: Export stouts aren't usually my thing, but this was pretty good.

Bottle purchased from Beers of the World in Henrietta, NY.

Pours out a dark, beautiful black, slight touch of brown with a tight looking 1.5 inch head, and great, lacing streaking down the glass.

Smells potent, some cocoa powder, smoke, and roasted malt. Smells even more concentrated straight from the neck of the bottle.

Tastes dark, dark, dark. Probably the best export stout I've ever had. Some espresso bitterness, a bit of baker's chocolate, some tea-like hop bitterness, and some light dark fruit flavors. A lot of roasted malt flavor, but it's not overpowering at all. Some black bready pumpernickel flavors as well. Bit of licorice.

Medium bodied, quite thick for a stout of its ABV. Just really full and lovely. Medium carbonation, supremely drinkable. Creamy, smooth, mouthfeel, almost nitro-like, but not so flattened out.

This is a really cracking good beer. My first beer tried from Australia, and I'd like to buy a ton more of it please.

Ah, Coopers stout. I last drank this when I worked miles from nowhere out in the Kimberleys where it reached well above 40ºC every day. Water (let alone beer) never tasted so good.

A: Looks gloopy coming out of the bottle. Black body and a huge cappuccino coloured head. I see it's bottle conditioned. Good.

S: Smokey coffee, chocolate, fudge, and peppy fruity esters.

T: Repeats the nose minus the fruit. Plenty of roasty, smokey malt and chocolate with some earth and fudge in the finish. It's fairly dry and lighter than I expected, and actually quite fizzy, not gloopy at all. Hmm, the finish is bitter and very dry and there's no fruit in there whatsoever. No wonder I didn't drink a lot out in Aus. Dumping the yeast in I get more fudge and fruity esters in the finish, which improves it somewhat.

O: Easily the best mass-produced beer in Australia.
