This was an extremely pleasant surprise! It is refreshing, smells great, and makes an excellent "apres fishing" brew. The saison characteristics - cracked pepper wheat thins and spicy saison flavours - make a lovely complement to the blackberries. Overall, this was one of my favourite beers during a recent trip to Vancouver Island.

Vancouver Is 'Black Betty Blackberry Saison' @ 5.5% , served from a growler purchased for $12 & a 6pack of 355 ml cans purchased for $11
A-pour is a light gold from the growler/can to a clear gold in the glass with a smallish white head leaving a steaky lace along the pint
S-sweet , blackberry mostly
T-true blackberry saison , stronger taste of blackberry's from the can's
MF-mild carbonation , medium body
Ov-ok beer , good local spring beer

Blackberry definitely complements a hoppy flavor, but overall, this saison does not do enough to capture the essence of blackberry season on the island.
Appearance: Golden with hazy red-orange hue.
Smell: A cloying, almost synthetic blackberry nose that reminds me of the smell of grape Dimetapp, but not entirely in a bad way.
Taste: Crisp with slight berry sweetness and tartness, mild hoppy finish. Blackberry taste does not match in intensity with the nose.
Mouthfeel: Highly carbonated.

Re-review, May 2015:
Pink-tinged gold and clear. Smells of sweet blackberries. Taste is quite nice - blackberries, more tart than sweet, but not overly so. Mouthfeel is a little on the thin side.
-------------------------------------
Original review, October 2013:
Poured from a 650 ml bottle.
A: 3.5 clear, sort of a tea colour (tea without milk, that is), a few millimetres of head, minimal retention, visible carbonation.
S: 3.5 fruity, a bit sour, yeast.
T: 3.25 Well, it does actually taste like blackberry, so it gets points for that.
F: 3 crisp then dry, a bit thin.
O: 2.75 I'm not really enjoying this one. Maybe I just shouldn't drink saisons.
