G-Man is an IPA. The Super G-man is that same IPA aged in Whiskey barrels "for a few months" as the menu said.
The beer came in a 12oz snifter and was a nice medium brown color with a whispy white head.
The smell was very much a mellow IPA smell with some hop aromas and a slight hint of vanilla from the barrel aging.
The taste was very mellow for an IPA. Pretty standard flavor, a bit of hops but nothing powerful or really upfront. It did have a nice mellow malt flavor to it. What was really intense was the vanilla flavor I assume came from the whiskey barrels.
I have had other barrel aged beers and this one did not have the same flavor. The only aging and flavor I got was the vanilla. It was a mellow flavor but could have been achieved many other ways.
The mouthfeel was slightly alcoholic, like drinking a light barlweywine (even though that is impossible). It had a hint of alcohol throughout and tasted good in the snifter instead of a pint glass. ABV is listed as ? on the menu.
I would say they should let the beer age for a while longer and they might have a real winner on their hands. As it is its not a bad beer at all.
Serving type: on-tap
