We met with Globetrotter here for some beer and dinner. A very welcome change of pace in a beer wasteland. The food was very solid and the drinking environment quite plesant. I wasn't impressed with the service, but the same goes for everywhere else in urban Russia. There was a lot of money sitting around the place meaning this is a hip spot in Moscow. The beers I tried were quite good. Not first class, but leaps and bounds above other Russian beers I tried on our vacation. Certainly worth a visit if you are in Moscow.

Moscow's newest brewpub, Durdin opened in April 2003. It is a great place, badly needed in this town. Located on the main thoroughfare from the airport to the center of town in a very Soviet looking monstrosity of a building, this place is a welcome respite. The ground floor features a cozy bar area in one room, plus a big high-ceilinged restaurant room complete with stage and balcony seating. Upstairs there is a separate wood-dominated bar area with an adjacent balcony looking out on a nice park and the busy street beyond. They feature five brews: a pilsner, an unfiltered pale, a filtered red, a wheat and a dark. All were good representatives of their style, with the unfiltered pale my personal favorite. The menu was extensive, with several things rare in Moscow. The lunch special was roasted pork, which was excellent. (The salad and borscht left a great deal to be desired, however.) We'll definitely be back for dinner. It only took one visit for this to become my favorite place in Moscow.
