Bottles don't seem to be too friendly to the JS beers, at least here at this hotel. This one is the best of three so far. Poured at a good temperature with a nice, foamy, thick, short lived, cream-colored head and a bit of lace. Aroma had hints of resin and citrus, malt. Flavor's like nose, tang is in front, followed by a bit o bitter and a tad o sweet. Body's a touch soft and not to the advantage. Finish has some medicinal flavs that last a bit.

Coming in a 345ml bottle; BB 06/12/13, served cool in a short-stemmed goblet. Notes: the beer label specifies Amarillo is the hop variety used in this brew.

A: pours a dark golden colour with a light red-ish shade, coming with a thin beige creamy head and very lively carbonation.
S: given a good swirl, enticingly biscuity crystal malts and candy-ish sweetness come hand in hand with a refreshing & light citric, dried-grassy and faintly herbal hoppiness as well as savoury-sweet preserved hawthorn fruits, on top of light estery fruits as in unripe apples. A “creamy” texture seems to assert itself as well, likely a bi-product of yeasts’ work.
T: effervescent, the foretaste is intriguingly acidic estery/sour-fruity, then a neutrally-flavoured and slightly savoury maltiness creeps up with a light biscuity hint and very little hop flavour to follow; the bitterness is kept at a very moderate level, but leaving a semi-chewy and rough mouthfeel at the finish of each sip, where an unexpected touch of alcohol should emerge to linger on the side.
M&O: the mouthfeel remains smooth throughout, despite the initial effervescence which softens along the way; this medium-bodied golden-coloured ale shows plenty of signs of estery influence and doesn’t come quite hoppy as one would normally expect from this beer style, but, compared with the other James Squire product I’ve tried, the Nine Tale Amber Ale, I find this one far more approachable, albeit still quite boring to be honest.
