Walked in later on a Saturday night. We weer able to get a table in the non-smoking area and the place was packed. Very loud with lots of tv's tuned to the evenings sporting events. Tap list was big but not overly impressive with a mixing of locals and alot of your more mainstream national microbrews. Also plenty for the BMC crowd. Bottle list was pretty impressive as well. Prices were all reasonable and service was prompt. A little too loud and sports-barish for what my wife and I were looking for, but definitely a good place to stop by.

I really like that this place has put a lot of effort into focusing on beer. They haven't slacked in other areas: plenty of big TVs, ample room on a week night, pool table, etc., but they have a good selection of good beer. I would recommend, and will go back.

This place was right next to our hotel, so it was the last stop before crashing. It's pretty wide open and they have a wide selection, albeit mundane. Lots of macro and lots of low gravity craft. There's definitely something for most, but you won't find many sought after items here. They have pool tables, dart boards and lots of TV's, which makes it a lot like a sports bar. And I wasn't 100% sure, but I think it was connected to a mall? It was after hours so that door was closed off. Either way, it's a nice casual stop for a pint, better suited if you're staying in the vicinity, not necessarily as a destination.

Vibe: This is more of a sports bar than a beer destination, but being Asheville it has a pretty good beer selection and as an added bonus the place opens at 11:00 am while many other bars in the city don't open until well later in the afternoon. I came in here around lunchtime on a Saturday and also returned later that evening. The evening crowd mainly seemed to be there to watch sports on the multiple TVs or play in the game room, some of which were drinking macro lagers.

Quality: Beers were served in the proper temperature, although one beer seemed to be coming off the keg flat. When I sat at the bar I received a snifter glass for a whiskey barrel aged beer.

Service: When I sat at the bar, the bartenders were very friendly and promptly came over to see if I wanted another beer. Service at the tables was a little slower.

Selection: The Bier Garden has 30 beers on-tap, approximately eight of which were from local Asheville breweries; a few others were also from North Carolina breweries elsewhere in the state. They also had an extensive selection of about 150+ bottled beers.

Food: I tried a couple of the appetizers, including the Bier Battered Vegetables, Smoked Gouda & Bacon Mac & Cheese, and Nachos. It wasn't overly fancy, but it was nice to have something to munch on while sampling beers.

Value: This place seemed a little bit pricier compared to some of the other bars in Asheville, but it wasn't expensive. It's not a bad selection if you are looking for a place that's open early or want to have a few beers while watching a game on TV.

Kind of an interesting atmosphere, as it is located inside like an old downtown mall or something? Nice floors, and kind of a historic look.
They have a long wood bar, and maybe 30 taps or something. They have mostly local beers on tap, well representation from NC and the south Atlantic.
We sat at the bar, and the bartender was "courteous". She didn't really talk to us too much about beer, or anything for that matter. She wasn't exactly busy, but busy enough to not pay much attention to us.
We had some food, which was actually pretty disappointing. The Cuban was pretty bad, and the salad was past it's prime to be honest. Just another average stop in Asheville.

A- Really varies. You can either be stuck out in the open hall, which sucks, be at the bar which is a little cramped unless you're there at off hours, or in one of the few tables that are technically inside the restaurant. Best case scenario you are at a table by the window for some people watching while sipping on something nice and catching a cool asheville breeze.

Q- Good.

S- Alright, but every time I go they are slammed and possibly a bit understaffed. The servers themselves are good.

S2- Decent, maybe 30 taps focusing on local brews most of the time, but with a good variation.

F- It's typical stuff done ok. Some of their apps aren't that great.

V- In line with asheville.

Stopped in for lunch today, it was plan C, but it worked out

Lots of beer memorabilia & sports bar sums it up, but it worked for me

All the beers seemed in fairly good shape

Service at the bar was friendly & prompt

Selection was fairly good, if I was grading on the Asheville scale probably a 3.5, but good to me. Nice, not mid-blowing selection of draft & bottles

Food was very tasty had white been & ham sup & choclate mousse cake, yum!

3 pints & the food $25 after tax, so bordering on expensive...

Would be a great option of checking out a game or of the Green Man & Thirsty Monk aren't open :P

Stopped in here on a recent trip to Asheville. Had been meaning to stop in for quite awhile but usually am in no shape to make the walk... Upon walking in this place is fairly open. I took a sit at the bar which was a little dark and started to look over the beer menu. Nice selection going on here of locals and Belgian brews. I stuck to the locals myself and actually found a few harder to find ones on the list as well. The bartender was very nice and knowledge about all the beers he was serving. The waitstaff was also very nice and polite with the ones that I chatted with while I was there. Did not try any of the food nor did I look at the menu so I can't attest to the quality of their food unfortunately. This was a pretty nice spot to stop in and have a brew without doubt. I would suggest it as a stop in Asheville to anyone.

A pretty fun restaurant with a nice beer list. I had the Catawba Valley pumpkin ale while I was there two weeks ago that paired nicely with the fish and chips. I believe my wife had the cuban.

Decent size restaurant and bar. Asheville has a nice selection of local breweries and The Bier Garden does a good job of having a nice selection. Even had two meads available.

The menu had a good variety of options and the prices were reasonable for a pub style restaurant that attracts both locals and travelers.

Not quite a place to go if you only had one day in Asheville, but certainly worth a visit on a weekend stay.

For some odd reason we ended up in this place for a short amount of time the other night. Not sure how we got there or even why we stayed for a drink. Service was alright but people were friendly for the most part since we sat at the bar. Place looks dirty at least at night but they manage to keep a pretty good beer selection IMO. One thing I still don't get is why the place is called Bier Garden. There is neither a garden nor is any of it outside. I definately have no desire to go back even though it really could have been worse. I just think that there are better places just around the corner. If they clean up that place a bit it could be nice.

Visited here for the second time as it is near the parking deck we use to go to Bruisin' Ales. The atmosphere is rather quiet during the afternoon, a little dark, but that's not too surprising. The service is decent, but the staff does not seem to know the beer as well as other places. The selection is decent, but like too many places, they seem to stick with the most well known selection from each brewery they carry. Honestly, I certainly prefer Barley's. We checked out the food menu, but nothing jumped out and it was a bit pricey, the beer was reasonable, however.

I stopped in with my wife while visiting Asheville. It was late on a Friday night (later than we're usually out) and it was roaring with a young, college aged crowd.

The Bier Garden has an odd mix of rooms. The bar area has a decent feel to it but the main area is a bit like drinking in a mall food court. They do have a back room or two with pool tables. But overall, I think it's more about body count than atmosphere.

The Bier Garden does have a decent beer selection with 20+ taps focusing mostly on local beers. I went with a Catawba Valley Fire Water IPA. They have bottles as well.

The Bier Garden is worth a stop for the beer but don't expect much more.
