Golden color with a thin head with short retention and leaving scattered laces.
Aroma of caramel malt, yeast and bread. Hops are too distant.
Flavor is bolder, but not well balanced. Notes of sweet malt and adjuncts, apples soaked in booze, some caramel and floral hops.
Light to medium body with good carbonation of small bubbles. Alcohol of 7.2% is clearly there, dominating the mouth.
This Marzen lacks a better balance; advertised extra malt addition was not enough to cover its alcohol content, nor its timid hops contributed to it. But it is not an awful beer, just don't give me a real pleasant feeling.

Enjoyed many times. Amber color, crystal clear appearance. White froth, brief crown. Sweet, sugary, mildy toasted, adjunct cereal & spicy aromas. Malty, harsh alcoholic & bitter upfront. Medium body. Moderate carbonation. Honey & spicy notes. Herbal sweet/bitter finish. ABV is well felt.

Poured from the 330 mL can into a pint glass.

Really good smell in this one with lots of bread and an apricoty fruit note somewhere in the middle there. Maybe a bit of caramel. Very malt heavy. Touch of butterscotch or just butter bread in there as well...

The beer tastes similar but with more of that buttery character. Very smooth, but perhaps a bit cloying. Bready and malty but perhaps not enough balance in there. Alcohol comes into play as the beer warms. Not fantastic but drinkable.

Overall pretty good. Not sure I would pick it up again because it's very unbalanced.

250ml bottle as a gift from Salou, Spain:
Clear amber colour with a thin lacing for a head that is slightly foamy and white in colour.

Sweet with some sticky malts & caramel. There is a lager type aroma coupled with hint of alcohol, some hops & spice.

Caramel & lots of malts, sweet with toffee & a light alcohol taste with subtle fruits as well. The taste is fairly basic but drinkable.

Sweet with a sticky mouthfeel and with a fairly thick body and medium carbonation that proceeds a dry finish.

Malt driven beer (obviously) with a strong caramel taste with some alcohol present throughout. Drinkable but not all that great and another reason why I'm not really a fan of this style of beer.

Pours with the color of chestnut honey, with little or no head, and only a spotting of toad's eye bubbles rising from time to time. Eh.

Aroma is candied nuts, malt, cleanness. A decent replica of the classic marzen nose.

Taste is sweet at first, with loquat, starfruit, and a hint of apricot. This much fruitiness seems out of place. On the swallow, harsh bitterness sweeps in, leaving a somewhat chemical impression. Odd, to say the least.

Mouthfeel could use a bit more pop -- with the sticky sweetness that pervades much of the experience, it needs to be lighter and brisker to balance things out.

Overall, there are worse beers in Barca, but this isn't that far a step above. Drink cold, and in cool weather.
