Although they call it Roja (red), it is an English Pale Ale as they state in small letters in the bottle description.
Amber color with an off-white head with medium retention.
Faint but nice herbal aroma with slightly toasted malts with notes of vanilla.
Nice flavor of pale and mildly toasted malts with herbal and floral hops.
Dry and bitter aftertaste.
Light body with medium carbonation.
This is the best of the Colon's beers, but that does not mean it is extraordinary. It is a decent beer that is worth it to try.

A: Slightly ambery medium copper with a big golden off-white head that settles just a bit too quick. Clear with several streams of bubbles. Keeps a fair skim & leaves some okay lacing.

S: Biscuity & grainy pale malts. Apple fruity esters that are also a bit floral. Grassy & herbal hops with a ghost hint of citrus. Fair strength, just decent character, but not super appealing.

T: Opens with dry, grainy biscuit malts and then grows a hint sweeter as the biscuit opens up and takes on a toasty edge. Firmly balanced hops with moderate bittering. Character is grassy & a bit herbal with a hint of spice and a fair bit of softly lemony muddled citrus. Takes on hints of rind and earth as it lingers in the finish.

M: Medium body (but barely) with carbonation a touch high. Ghost hint of sugars & quite a bit of hop texture. A bit too carbonated – hurts drinkability. Hop drying finish.

D: Nothing fancy here, just straight ahead get 'er done. Robust in two nicely complementary aspects with plenty of depth. Loads of flavor. With a tad softer mouthfeel, & a hint more malts, this would really shine.

Whilst in Bogota and I visited Palos De Moguer and the fourth beer I tried was the Colon Roja. Not sure why they called it Roja....it wasnt red??? The appearance was a pale amber but not real red, did have a nice thin white head. The smell carried sweet malt and very subtle hop...was pretty nice. The taste had good malt character with hints of roast. The sweet malt character would make it tough to session...at least for me.

Picked up a single at Exito strolling through the beer aisle. Bottle smell is malty and slightly citrusy and mostly zesty. Pours to a nice red bronze with a multi bubble head that is like sea foam sticking on the glass as it recedes, slowly. Taste is very hoppy up front and well, throughout, but more prominent in the finish. Good aroma and bitterness. Seems to be a Cascade aroma with a Fuggles flavor and taste. Very English-like as was their goal. Almost approaching a brown ale in flavor but with the citrusy aromas I would peg it as a West Coast Red. Mouthfeel is spot on. This is a very good brew.

Another one of the recently bottled PdM beers i bought in a supermarket in uptown bogota.

The pour is an amber tone with a thin head that however leaves considerable lacing down the sides of the glass. smell has some notes of roasted malts mixed with some hops. not too strong, one must really take time to find this one but it's generally good.

taste is not bad but it's the same problem all over again for PdM, their beers are a bit too watery and despite a decent malty sweetness, sort of sirup-y, a large part remains just a carbonation experience, sort of soda-ish. strong hoppy bitter finale, comparable to any from the same style (along the lines of Bass, I suppose).

it's a decent beer anywhere.
