When you order their barleywine, Sailfish serves you a 500 ml swing-top bottle and a glass. I don’t believe the bottles themselves are sold, just the beer. Either way it’s an odd arrangement, as the bottle shows no yeast and doesn’t suggest the beer within has been bottle conditioned.

Not surprisingly, this big boy has almost no carbonation and presents with a somber disposition. Still, it has a delightful coffee liqueur taste with rolling sweetness. Only modest reference to the 82 IBU is made. Even the fragrance is sugary.

Sailfish ages their barleywine for no less than twelve months before serving it publicly. It is deep bloody red and apparently clear though the body is too dark to know for certain. Just remember that a half-liter of 10% ABV beer can be a lot to handle late in your game. Since it comes in a bottle, you may wish to split it with a friend.
