This is surprisingly good for a "cheap knockoff" beer. Of course given that it's made by Bavaria, it's not exactly from an unknown brewery. It's very very similar to Heineken (a good thing in my opinion) and while it may not be super cheap (like the $5 for 6 as someone else said it's worth), it's still cheap enough, and similar enough to make it worth it considering Heineken can go anywhere from $7.99 to $8.99 around here for a 6 pack. $5.99 versus $7.99 or $8.99 definitely makes it worthwhile in my book.

Appearance: Brilliant, clear gold. Fluffy white head with moderate retention.

Aroma: Virtually none, faint cracker-like maltiness.

Flavor & aftertaste: Follows aroma. Very little flavor & no bitterness. Leans slightly sweet.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied, dry, short clean finish. No bitterness

Overall: I expected a little more from this import. It essentially has no aroma and no flavor or character to it. On the plus side, this sample avoided the skunk aroma often associated with the green bottle. It's not that it tastes bad, it just has very little taste. I do believe a Coors Banquet Beer has more character. It's crushable though.

Not bad at all for a Aldi beer. I'd buy it again when it's convenient when I'm already picking up groceries. Be a good cooking beer when a recipe calls for a lager.

Pours clear yellow. Smells of maltiness, bread like, with some earthly floral and grass notes. There’s another smell that’s interesting, not quite skunk, but I can’t quite pinpoint what it is. Taste nice and light. It stays simple with a slightly sweet hop balance. Light hops for sure, so if you’re looking for a bitter finish, you’ll not find it here. Pleasant for its price point.

Holland 1839 has a very thick, spongy white head and a clear, bubbly appearance, with impressive lacing. The aroma is of crackery malt. The flavor is of sweet white bread and mild hop bitterness. Holland 1839 has a medium body and a dry finish.

Purchased as a six-pack of 12oz bottles from Aldi for $7.99. Poured into a nonic pint glass.

L - Clear pale yellow, with a one-finger pale white head. Head retains relatively well over time.
S - Light toast. Biscuit. A bit floral.
T - Matches nose exactly. More bready than I expected. A bit on the sweet side. Light grain finish.
F - Light-bodied, with plenty of carbonation. Super drinkable, with enough body to carry a decent flavor.
O - Honestly, not bad at all! For the price, this is one of the better beers you could go for. Making this one of my fridge beers when I can. Refreshing, not very filling, and pretty decent compared to related macros. Worth a try!

12 oz. Bottle into pint glass
Look: 3-finger head, reduces to 1, heavy co2, light straw color, nice lacing
Smell: Bready, sweet,
Taste: Low bitterness, malt and sweetness comes through
Feel: Nice mouthfeel, carbonation comes through
Overall: This is a good beer, more flavor than large domestic lagers, a tongue-tingler.
Paired it with jalapeno sausage and hummus. This worked.

Appearance:
Brilliantly clear gold--a bit on the darker side, Good head retention and lacing, a tasty looking brew

Aroma:
Sweet pale malts, a bit of spicy hops you would find in other Dutch beers. No skunkiness despite being in a green bottle under fluorescent light!

Flavor:
Crisp, bready, semi-dry, not much hop bitterness or flavor but it's there

Mouthfeel:
Moderate CO2, Smooth but thin and watery.

Overall:
This is a safe, clean international pale lager with a pasteurized mass-market flavor. It has all of the good qualities you expect from a Dutch light lager but none of the flaws such as the subtle solvent-like off-flavors you get from a Heinie. Heineken has a stronger flavor, but what makes it stronger is not pleasant. Holland Lager's a bargain at $6.49 for a sixer at Aldi in Edmond, OK. Beats Heineken on taste and price! It also seems to look and taste better than previous reviews would indicate. I suspect this was a fresher batch and possibly they slightly adjusted the recipe recently.

Judging this against others in the genre, I can find no glaring fault. The color and nose are quite correct. The malt, sweetness, and hops are similarly orthodox. My only quibble is that the feel is a little thin.

The beer pours a golden color with a white head that dissipates. It is sweet on the nose and earthy. The overall aroma is medium strong. The taste is slightly cloying but the hops come through, just not with enough bitter offset. The hops taste is complex with green earthiness. The body is harder than ideal but very bubbly. This an easy drinking lager.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass. Pours golden yellow with a tiny white head. Smells of adjunct grain, not unpleasant, but plain. Tastes of adjunct grain, that's about it. Beer is light bodied and easy drinking, good carbonation. Overall, an average beer.
