draft at Brouwer's

a: served in a standard shaker pint, walking man is an amber-copper in color, sporting a finger's worth of off-white carbonation that retains well and leaves good lacing

s: the nose opens immediately with a formidable mixture of resinous pine and grapefruit hops brushed onto a structure of caramel malts, grainy, toast, nice start

m: moderately carbonated with a medium body, a little sugar weight

t: malty flavors with deep toast, caramel and toffee form a solid malt backbone, dark pine hops meld with flavors of bitter grapefruit - strong and lingering long, deep and rindy, dig the huge hop profile

o: a great ipa, loaded with huge, complex nw hops while maintaining easy drinkability

Been a long time since I've had this beer. On tap at the Red Hot last night.

The beer pours a slightly hazy, golden amber color with good head retention and lacing. The nose is attractive as well, and seems unique to walking man and the NW. The beer smells as if it will be quite dry (which of course it is), with very little citrus evident. Otherwise, I get some light balsa wood, burnt toast, pepper and light honey. The flavor profile replicates the nose in this dry IPA, and I'm impressed by how well the hoppy bitterness seems to blend into the flavor profile. There's some noticeable, underlying bitterness, but it doesn't seem to overpower or dominate the flavor profile. The beer is quite dry otherwise, and has something of a soft, creamy mouthfeel. The beer comes across as if it's no nitro (it wssn't), with almost completely unnoticeable alcohol.

Always an interesting beer to try, though not made in a style that I typically care for. Was very happy to find it on tap at the Red Hot last night.
