First had: on tap at their brewpub

Pretty decent, pretty average. All the signs of a typical pale ale: clear coppery color with a small cap of white head. Good balance of sweet malts and floral/citrusy hops in the aroma. Similar in the taste, toasted grains, sweet malts, crisp citrus and floral hops qualities. There was also a big sweetness in the aftertaste. Light-medium body, and easily drinkable.

On tap at Bailey's PDX 11.4.11.

Light gold clear body profuse number of rising bubbles, one finger pure white head, ultra small bubbles, medium-slow dissipation with significant lacing. Malts dominate nose, dry and sweet, floral and grassy hops for balance. Taste mirrors nose, quite Pilsener like, a bit sweet in the middle leading to dry clean finish. Mouthfeel on the light side of medium, good effervescence. A real surprise, this brewery is far more known for their big beers, tasty.

On tap @ the Walking Man Brewing Co. (Stevenson, WA) on 8/25/11. Served in a pint glass.

Pours a beautiful crystal clear copper in the glass, with a finger of slightly off-white colored head. This retains with a thin richness, yet still leaves back some robust and sticky looking swathes of lacing. The aroma smells fresh, floral, and earthy in the nose, with ripe citric notes that mingle with the sweet breadiness of the malts to impart a nice fresh twang up the nostrils.

The taste starts out with some vibrant fresh citrus character that gives this an assertively crisp and quenching feel on the palate. This is VERY nicely balanced by a sweet doughy graininess across the back before finishing dry and piney with a touch of spice. The mouthfeel is medium bodied, with a perfect combination of crispness and smooth creaminess on the tongue that just feels right on when working with the hops here.

Man, this one really grew on me as I worked through the glass, with just the right kind of bright and brisk hop character that was needed to keep the drinkability of this WAY up. I ripped through this pint in no time and would have easily put down a few more if other great beers here didn’t beckon me. This is a really strong APA.

Was happy to see this on tap at Brouwer's in Seattle.

Pours a bright copper color with a fine white head.

Aromas are citrusy, with some lemon, and oranges, there is also some earthiness and pine too.

Taste is just like the nose. Nice citrus, earthiness, pine, and some caramel malty sweetness. A little cedar woodiness, and a crisp hoppy pine finish.

Mouthfeel is good, very crisp, nicely carbonated, with good full and smooth body.

Overall, a very nice Pale Ale. If I lived near the brewery, this would be a beer I'd go for often, tasty, and quite drinkable.

Pours a two finger yellowed head over a cloudy golden rust liquid. Smells orange and grapefruit pith just sitting in the glass. To the nose deep rich pith with strong lemon, blood orange, and tangerine. Crisp pine. Very intense aromas, perhaps strong than I'd expect for the style.

Tastes very nice. Strong hop flavor, mild malt sweet, moderate clean hop bitter, and fine acrid sting. Hop flavors are lemon, orange, pith, pine, and grassiness. Malt is non-descript sweetness. Definitely not a wet beer, but not overly dry. The dry comes from the strong hop flavor, hop bitter, and cleansing carbonation. A tiny dash of clean alcohol mixes with the strong lemon to give a nice tangy zip in the finish. Aftertaste is grassy and dry with some metallic (copper?).

Md-light body and strong fine carbonation that works very well. Very drinkable and very refreshing on a warm late-summer evening.

On tap in a 4 oz sampler glass at the Walking Man pub.

appearance - foamy head with great retention & lacing, pours a reddish amber

smell - earthy hops with some roasted malts

taste - hops dominant, earthy and citric, caramel malts in the backdrop

mouthfeel - medium body, incredibly smooth

drinkability - the smoothness of the mouthfeel and the delicious hops showcase this beer

From the brewery:
Perfectly balanced American Pale Ale. Full malt flavor balanced with hops.

Guest tap at Amnesia Brewing.

Pours a light orangish copper. Good clarity. A finger of almost pure white head. Retention and lacing are both good.

This is really a nicely constructed brew. The floral and citrusy hop character is fairly significant, but the full malt profile keeps things just about perfectly balanced. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation. Straightforward and enjoyable.

Nothing too exciting, but a nice, sessionable example of an APA.

Had this brew at a Pizza shop in Stevenson, WA, about one block north of the brewery. On tap is was poured full to the rim with only a wisp of head. Color was a light copper to gold and very clear. Nose was well balanced, but with a slight tilt towards the hops. Taste was really good and again well balanced. It was a bit richer than most pale ales and likewise better. Body was medium to light and carbonation was a bit weak. Overall this is fine brew that all should try.

In the vast world of APA's this one was a pleasant surprise. Nice floral hop aroma (some pine). Pours deep gold with plenty of white head and good lacings. Taste is typical West Coast APA. What set this apart for me was the balance and the easy drinking (sesionable) quality of this brew. Maybe it was the freshness of the beer that impressed me so much. But I will have to stop by W.M. Brewery soon and get another growler fill.

At brew-pub late 2005. Beautiful color, light amber, almost orange. Aroma of American hops (Cascade?) and malt. Nice bready character. Taste citrusy and hoppy but not too bitter, then malty, then flavourful earthy hops again. Decent body. A definite session beer. This is what I first tried there, and it is what I stuck with for 3 pints. Can’t wait to go back and try something else.

A casual beer with a breezy, hemi-fruit nose, broad, flat bittering, and a protruding yeast character. Strider is cool amber, very clear, and nearly flat.

This simple but satisfying ale leans more towards an English bitter than the American pale it’s designated as.

An American-style pale ale that is breathtakingly good. Brownish copper with a small head, and an intensely pleasurable aroma. Malts are generally sweet, with a light butteriness and a slight Scottish smokiness. Hops are intense, citrusy, lightly bitter but not overdone -- perfectly balanced. Mouthfeel is a bit thin but the beer is incredibly drinkable. This is a hoppy and robust beer that will satiate any hopheads or fans of Pacific Northwest hops, but is balanced and complex enough to please just about anybody.
