Wandered in on a hot Saturday afternoon, and was pleasantly surprised by the great "wall 'o taps" facing me. Had a sublime pint of fresh Old Engine Oil which hit the spot like nothing else could, after walking the boardwalk (followed by a Jever Pilsner & Mc Chouffe Golden Ale). Clean bar, subdued lighting made for a decent atmosphere, but the two detractors here were the din of the surrounding deli/surrounding eating establishments and sub-par lounge singer/keyboard player in the small kiosk outside the bar, and more importantly the lack of beer-knowledgeable staff. The two female bartenders on duty had no interest (or information) in the beers offered..just there for the paycheck it seemed. A great, and sorely needed thing in A.C., where bland macrobrews rule...I just hope it lasts & the quality and the freshness of the brews offered can last.

Update, after Covid, the amount and quality of the beer selection had dropped dramatically. Now, 2 years later, it hasn't returned. Bartender told me there was a new general manager, who changed thing up. Selection is not great, though they do have a handful of good craft beers. Flights are now only 3 choices, and still 12$. NOT the best beer bar in AC, any more!

Approximately fifty beers on tap with an excellent assortment of local beers as well as regional and national. Prices on the beers are surprisingly good considering you are in a casino. The bartenders are not overly friendly or helpful but they are efficient and will give sample pours (as long as you are not greedy).

This place has an absurd amount of taps. At least half is interesting craft and there are usually 1-2 harder to come by beers. A word of warning though, if you are there for a weekend night, the back area turns into a fist pumpin' jersey shore episode.

The bar was too close to the concourse in the hotel. Additionally the bar was open to the concourse for it's entire length. Other than bar location everything else was great. There was a terrifically varied selection of drafts and bottles. The bartenders were knowledgable and very helpful with beers I was unfamiliar with. The place did get a little noisy after 11:00 PM because of the associated Martini Bar, but what casinor bar doesn't get noisy in the evening. I have been there several times and plan to return this weekend.

The mother lode of taps in this state!!! I'd heard from some friends not to expect good service, and maybe we were lucky in this regard, but I must say the service we received was not only good, but OUTSTANDING. Sal was the bartender on duty and he knew a ton about every beer we asked after, including the Belgians. We were impressed. Speaking of impressed, the beers were plentiful, FRESH, and in great variety. In short, who could ask for a better way to spend six hours? While we were certainly on the older side of those that were hanging, before we left a crew of German tourists came by and before you know it we were all engaged in a round or three of hearty drinking songs. Great times had by all. Look forward to hitting this place again on our next trip to A.C.

In the lower depths of the Tropicana, past the casino buffet and Hooters, walking past an iron fenced bar in a mall like setting, one may not realize the largest selection of craft beer at the Jersey Shore is upon them. Bar seems to have an identity crisis and half caters to the craft beer enthusiast and the other to the clubby crowd. The atmosphere even lends itself to that, as the front area features a nice long bar and high top tables that appears to be a bad attempt at a Belgian cafe. Rounding the corner, one sees a dark and dimly lit area, with another large round bar, this one only appearing to sell vodka and BMC bottles and a dance floor.

50 taps and 101 bottles they claim, featuring a nice mix of American and Belgian craft and enough BMC products and other liquor options for the other side of the equation. The key is there is something for everyone and enough to keep the craft beer enthusiast happy for an extended time. Prices aint to shabby either with $5-$6 being good for most drafts. Service was friendly but not overly knowledgeable about the beer. Recommended most for a later afternoon or early evening before the loud music and crazy kinda start showing up.

Firewaters is a on the lower level in the Tropicana and has a fantastic selection of beer - 51 taps plus an abundance of bottled beer as well - both imports and microbrews, seasonals as well. I don't recall that they had any aged beers or anything particularly rare, just a selection that in itself is hard to come by... anywhere. I stumbled upon this place by accident - I did not come to the Tropicana expecting to find it. That in itself is the plus of the establishment. It's a shame one often has to pick either beer, crowd, or music/environment when going out though, and this is no exception. After a certain time they attempt to present the place as a club where there is a dress code and a 'bouncer' standing outside. The music turns to the overplayed hits. If you arrive early, you might enjoy having a chat with some strangers to talk beer, as the staff doesn't necessarily proactively educate or show enthusiasm for it.

I made a trip down to Atlantic City on Thursday with a group of friends for an evening full of hedonism. Firewaters was on my radar to visit, as I knew that we were staying at Tropicana. This place was located in an area of the hotel with a grouping of restaurants and bars, including Corky's which offers some good BBQ.

Part of me wishes we went here earlier in the night when it has less of a nightclub vibe with loud and crusty top 40 music playing. There is a good sized bar here, but there is a back martini bar/dance club, so considered yourself warned.

Beer selection is good with maybe about 50 drafts with highlights that included Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, DFH 90 Minute IPA, Weyerbacher Blithering Idiot, Rogue Dead Guy, Victory Golden Monkey, Blue Point Hoptical Illusion and Stone Arrogant Bastard. I had a Stone IPA that was served in proper glassware and was delicious.

The key with this place is that it's about as good as I think you'll find if you're craving a nice craft beer in AC.

There is slim pickings for good brews down there. We had a great time strolling the boardwalk, checking out the hotels and even did pretty well at the roulette table.

Visited in June 2011. This bar felt oddly out of place in a casino, probably because I can't imagine gambling without cocktails. Fairly decent selection but leaning a little towards a BMC and foreign mega-beer lineup. Pretty pricey, if memory serves $8 a pint for your average IPA and prices aren't mentioned on the menu. We were there in the afternoon and it wasn't particularly crowded and the vibe felt corporate and cold like a lot of airport bars I've been to. Worth a quick thirst quencher but not somewhere you'd want to spend the evening. We departed after one beer and headed outside for the beach bar with the reggae band where the vibe couldn't be beat, despite the lousy beer selection.

Walked in and it was a basically like an afterthought to the mall/ casino. A huge selection of taps and bottles, ranging from some local crafts (Victory/ Troeg's/ Flying Fish/ etc.) to some nice imported bottels (Rochefort/ Witkap/ Unibroue) The bartenders really had no idea what they were doing. They could not find the tap to pour a beer, had no idea what styles of beer were, and they seemed to be out of many taps, and made no effort to make a suggestion of something close. It seemed kind of dirty inside as well. Yes, I can get a great beer there, but $8 a pint for a Flying Fish! And on top of that, I guess you are doing me a favor. Nice selection, but I don't think I would return.

Arrived a little after midnight, a few other people around the bar but not too busy. There was a bunch of flat screens with various sports games on.

The bartender was prompt and patient. He might not of had encyclopedic knowledge of all the beers but his effort was second to none.

They had 51 taps, a portion of which were the typical BMC you expect to find in AC but they had offerings from Dogfish, Victory, Stone, Flying Fish, Blue Point, Chimay, and several other

We had great service from the bartender so I know I'm definitely coming back to this place next time I'm in AC.

Has an open/sports bar atmosphere, and a back area where they had a live DJ playing contemporary dance music. Plenty of taps (51) and a decent bottle list (80+), but as the previous reviewer noted most were fairly main stream. The layout is simple with a few tables around the edge of the establishment and the main focus on seating at the bar. The bar itself wraps around and then doubles back into the aforementioned back area.

Every beer I ordered was served in the proper glass, which I wasn't expecting at all from an AC bar. They even make a point of mentioning the glassware your drink will be served in on the menu. A for effort, but reading only a few lines further down they forfeited all their brownie points with an absolutely horrid "beer education" section. I wish I had a picture. It's basically 3 lines that say something to the effect of...

"Lagers: top fermented, crisp and light"
"Ales: bottom fermented, fruity and bold"
"All others: porter, stout, lambics, weiss, saison, double..."

The last "catch all" category had us rolling on the floor laughing.

Overall though it's not a bad place to grab a beer.

I have been in the Atlantic City area on a week long vacation. I have given up looking for any place better than this place. In fact, I have given up looking for any other place around here with a single decent beer on tap - if they are out there I can't find them.

Firewaters is like so many of those craft beer "theme parks" that you find around the country. It's in a casino (Tropicana) so I guess it's what you should expect. They do have 50 beers on tap and a couple of choice bottles. But I would say a third of the choices are mainstream yellow swill and another third caters to the people who select beer based on the cool name/tap-handle. But every craft beer lover will definitely find something good to drink here.

Don't expect your servers to know much about what they are pouring or what glass to use (even though the beer menu says they should). And two things I picked off the tap list were "kicked."

With so much alcohol being poured in this town it is strange that there is not a better beer selection around here. If you get stuck in this town definitely go to Firewaters.

I have now been to firewaters enough times to realize that it is pretty much hit or miss, while they sport 51 taps the selection is still rather average, although not bad by any stretch of the imagination (it is very good for AC). They have the basic macros and imports, a decent selection of craft beer and generally 3-4 "special" beers (seasonals or limited releases).

What really brings down the establishment is the hired help's complete ignorance of what they are serving you. On my last trip I caught the girl pouring me the wrong beer and on other occasions the help was unfamiliar with what I was ordering and I had to point to the tap on the wall.

For the bar itself, it is pretty average and the crowd it attracts are generally not BAs, but for the best selection in Atlantic City you will have to put up with its many downfalls.

I just sampled this place for the first time recently, and for the most part, it was a breath of fresh air. Being in Atlantic City, earlier in the day I had visited the unimpressive Tun Tavern, so maybe this place benefited from my expectations being very low. That being said, 50 taps, 101 bottles, and the quality of some of the selections, from Maudite to Chouffe to Capt Lawrence to Stone to whatever, was very good. My only knock on the selection was the space devoted to the macros, but then again, it's A.C. and I'm sure that they're trying to satisfy the many casino folk. Though a bit on the pricey side, at least the drafts I tasted were very fresh.

The atmosphere was fairly chill overall, but again, it's a little tainted by the drunk, hormonal, single gambling crowd (think Vegas).

As for the service...well, since I'd like to consider myself a gentleman, I'll refrain from being too insulting, but I will say that I felt insulted myself half of the time when ordering a beer..as if the barkeep was doing me a favor rather than doing his job. Both bartenders knew absolutely zero about beer, and the aforementioned guy got angry when, unknowingly, I asked him a question about one of the Maudites I was sampling. Excuse me. The only positive thing that this guy did was pay no mind to a couple of rock star wannabe's who sat down at the bar and, in not so subtle fashion, proceeded to make it known that they were a band playing at the House of Blues later that evening. They got ticked off when the barkeep didn't comp them, or even ask for an autograph, which one of them actually mentioned. What a bunch of jackasses. Kudos to the bartender for actually treating them that way.

In short, thankfully the selection and quality at this place were good enough to offset the crassness and ignorance of the hired help, or else I wouldn't want to make a return trip...like I do now. This is the place to go for a good beer in Atlantic City...at least for now.

My wife and I also hit this place up on out first anniversary. Located in the Tropicana casino. We kind of just stumbled on this place and didn't even know BA knew about it. What can I say the music is TERRIBLE unless you like Madonna, hip hop Gwen Stafani not her good stuff from No Doubt,a couple of eighties favorites that just gave me a headache. A very small bar that loops around in a J fashion. Now for the most impressive 51 TAPS!!!. Need I say more. T.V.'s are all over the place which is a good thing for me. Another thing as the same as the Tun tavern. It seems like a seen out of Coyote Ugly but it was pretty cool when we finally looked over the bill they forgot to add one of my wife's beer's. Which is always a plus I am not a thief I would have paid but I wasn't about to walk all the way back there to pay my bill. IF you can stand the music you can definetly have a good time with those taps.

was here for a bachelor party...

the look of the place never really does much for me unless it's an extreme. this was not. kinda dim-lit, which is ok with me as atlantic ac doesn't always have the nicest scenery to look at.

plenty of beers on tap, but too many common or macro beers really. the bottle selection was good but i'm not one for bottles at a bar unless they're crazy cheap or crazy rare. there were notable ones that caught my attention, but it wasn't like i'd been to nirvana or something.

the people tending bar were friendly, and did present the beers just fine. but it was empty-ish so i can't comment on what it's like when it's crowded.

worth noting: i was not allowed in at night time, as i was wearing a pair of Dr. Martens boots. apparently, that's not acceptable attire for a beer bar at night.

I guess I expected this place to be a little more on the higher end side. It was a little more transient than I would have liked but it is Atlantic City and I understand. The place was ok. The service was ok. All was ok, except the beer selection, which was good. It could have been a little cleaner. So, all else considered, if you like good and rare brews and are in A.C. to leave a little money at the casinos, stop here. If you aren't a beer fan, you may not appreciate what Firewaters has to offer.

AC is a shithole for the most part, when it comes to beer. A friend of mine and fellow BA user told me about the place when we were there together.

We had a great time there. Over 150 bottle and tap selections was great. The taps were impressive. Specifically they had the Gonzo Porter on tap, which is one of my favorites.

The music was great and they had a dance room, which was a little different. They also had specialty drinks, which was nice for the ladies.

A nice find in the Trop! AC does have some good spots, but this is the only place to find craft brews.

I found out about this establishment through BA, so I want to thank everyone for the reference. This past weekend, I visited Firewaters and was blown away by the selection (51 beers on tap, 100 in bottle). It reminded me of some of the beer festivals that I've attended this year, as I was able to recognize a majority of those beers that were served. Unfortunately, I was less than impressed with the bartender, who claimed that she only works the taps once a week and was unfamiliar with the selections available on that day. What I found to be really surprising was the amount charged per beer, as I ordered a glass of Fire Rock Pale Ale and a glass of Sawtooth Ale, which totaled $13.00. This was certainly more than what I wanted to pay, compared to other venues in Atlantic City such as Game On and Tun Tavern. Although I would definitely return to Firewaters based on their selection, I may have to curtail the number of times I visit based on their prices.

I've been to Firewaters in Atlantic City about half a dozen times in the past couple of years and it remains the staple for good brew in AC.

The interior atmosphere could use lots of improvement IMHO as could the bartenders knowledge and service level. But the selection is near excellent, making up for everything that is lacking.

Pricing is more expensive than a standard bar but not as much as you would expect from a high end beer bar in a casino. Pints range from $4 - $8 bucks fro the most part. 750ml bottles can range from $10 - 25 bucks on average. Obviously they have some selections that are more expensive but I'm just trying to illustrate that lots of offerings are there to be had in the price ranges I've listed.

Long story short Nancy "the blond beer goddess" behind the bar was sooo amazingly helpful, she let me come behind the bar to look in the two coolers and then let me take a menu so I could ask my boyfriend what he wanted. Bravo for that, seeing several Stone handles ready to pour is aways a pleasure, but in the heart of an AC casino, c'mon...plenty of good stuff flowing on taps, and in bottles, all on view, I'd be nice if you can get a decent bite to eat, for that you have to order at the adjoining deli, sandwedges etc...two bars the one up front for beer and in the rear for the hard stuff...very black, bleak decor, "casino chic", I suppose, if you find your self cought in AC, its a place to get a good pint

Went to AC last week and was hoping to find a bar of this quality. Lucky for me it was in the casino/hotel I was staying at. Located in the marketplace of the Tropicana, near the boardwalk, the bar is in open view. According to Tropicana the establishment is a beer/martini bar. It appears that half of the bar was devoted to beers and the other half I assume was devoted to the martinis. The atmosphere is average, kind of small. The 50 beer taps are right in front of you on the wall so you get to easily see what they have. They have their current stock of bottles (101 different types) lined around the bar and a decent selection of glassware. The selection was diverse ranging from some high end Belgians (Chimay, Rochefort, Westmalle, Saison Dupont) to hop lovers brews (Hop Devil, DFH 90/60, Stone). They also had some of your more common euros. They have a beer menu to choose from but I was told it was a bit dated, several of their tap selections were out. I didn't get the sense the bartenders were very knowledgable as the one bartender didn't know which glass to use only that the distributors gave the glass to them. They do offer a "sled" of 4 4oz samplers that was pretty reasonably priced. I didn't try to food there but if you don't like pub food, there is "A-Dam Fine Deli" almost attached to the bar. Very worthy of visiting if you are in the area. I stayed for a few hours to watch the Rangers game and enjoy some tasty brews.

Firewaters is a not-so-hidden gem in the Quarter section of the Tropicana. It is in stumbling distance to casinos, Jitney stops and cabs so that is a plus.

The exterior is par for the course for what you would expect in a Casino bar/restaurant. On the plus side the large # of draft handles is viewable to passers-by. Inside it looks like a typical sports bar. The bar area is right at the entrance, and around the corner there is dining room seating. The bar boasts the previously-mention taps, along with their available bottles lining the walls. The establishment is dark with spartan furnishings.

The beer selection is phenomenal, especially when you consider you're technically in a casino. They have 50 drafts with surprisingly few macros. Selections include Smuttynose, DFH, Yuengling, Kona, Brooklyn, De Dolle, Sly Fox and many others. As for bottles they claim 101 from the likes of Heavyweight, Tröegs, Rogue, Victory etc. Glassware is varied and the prices are very reasonable. They also offer samplers of 4 drafts for about $7-8. Included with the sampler is a notes paper which scores extra points in my book.

The service here is good. The bartenders know the beers and know how to serve them. No complaints at all in this department.

We did not have any food on this visit, but the deli with whom they share an entrance looked worthwhile.

Overall this is a place I would definitely make a point to visit any time in Atlantic City.

I knew I was making my way to Atlantic City so I decided that I needed to not only bring beer for my room but try to find a place that has good offerings for my stay. My search led me to Firewaters, at first glance not a great looking place on the casino side of the Tropicana Hotel. As you walk in you notice that whole amtosphere thing leaves you quick because the beer selection is very good and I'm pretty sure the best in Atlantic City. I was in there on a early sat night about 7-8.

The bar tender seemed knowledgeable but with all the taps in front of me there wasn't any need for many questions. Most of the taps I've seen before, Firewaters had about 50 taps with only Miller Lite and one other offering that was kicked.

The beers to be had were DFH (90/60), Sly Fox-Saison, Allagash, Kona Brewing-Pale Ale, Chimay Blue, Brooklyn, Stone, etc. All reasonably priced with a load of bottles in the fridge as well. They have a 4 beer sampler/for the price of the pint of the most expensive sample you order. I wish I could have spent more time in this place, with all the beers I did not get to try but if I ever come back to AC this place will be a nightly hang out.

I got tired of paying $6.00+ for a glass of Yuengling draft at the bar in the casino so I decided to wander downstairs to see if there was a better bar with more selection. Firewaters was a welcome find. I decided to spend my hard earned money there, rather than in the Casino. There was an ample selection. Chimay on draft for the same price as the Yuengling upstairs. The bartender on Thursday was totally unknowledgeable about the beers, but the taps were right in front of me so there was not much to ask. Saturday's barkeep knew a lot more, and knew what glassware to use. Stone and Dogfish Head on tap, with a large selection in bottles. A beer lovers oasis. No atmosphere, but I spent my time talking to friends and deciding what my next beer would be.

As noted by a few others, what this place lacks in atmosphere is made up in their selection. Located down on the lower level of the Tropicana and just about 50 yards from the from both the Boardwalk and Hooters and right across from Corky's (where the food is much better...grab it to go and bring it into Firewaters). Tall green metal fence separates this place from the walkway. Once you come in it's nothing fancy...nice long L-shaped marble bar and about a dozen pub tables. They have something like 50 taps and 101 bottles to choose from. The servers could definately be taught a little more about the beers they serve. I had to ask for a glass for my bottle of Oaked Arrogant Bastard I ordered. Once it gets a little later ( 11 PM or so) the place really gets to be more like a night club and the music is blaring. So, unless that's your thing, I would suggest going before then. Also, don't get your hopes up too high when you look at their beer menu as sometimes what you see and want is now sold out...but thay have plenty else to choose from.
